Why are they mostly based in England, if not Europe? Is it purely because it's longer to transport a horse from Ireland to comps in Europe, or is there not much of a show jumping scene in Ireland so they need the BS shows to bring on horses?

There's more higher level shows in England and also the backbone of their business is sales, so they've more buyers in England.That's the short answer anyway!

Same as any discipline - the more competitors, the better the funding, the better the shows. A lot of the top Irish riders are based elsewhere, across all disciplines not just show jumping.

The UK is certainly more convenient for those who are not at a level where they could afford to go to other countries, but want access to bigger venues and competitions.
