A pin off post from the "do your repair or chuck out broken rugs" thread but was wondering if they sell ion on patches for rugs? My son's pony's rug has a narrow U shaped tear. It's too narrow and frayed for me to sew it properly but I reckon an iron on patch would do the trick. Do they sell these for rugs?

Ooo, I searched the Robinson's site but nothing turned up. Just did a search on Ebay and found a Hydrophane one but in green and burgundy, rug is blue though!

Thanks for the suggestions, I never thought about a boating shop, my husband sails too so will ask him if he can think of anything

My mare made some 1 inch tears in her rug so I just glued the edges together with strong glue and rubbed a layer of glue right over the top like a sticking plaster. It took 2 minutes, was dry shortly after and the repairs are totally waterproof and secure. Try it!

What about a cycle repair kit? Don't they have some kind of rubberised patched (which will be waterproof) and glue? I don't how big the patches are, but you might have enough to cover over the tear.

A bit of a coincidence - I found a couple of tears on my mare's turnout liner yesterday. Sainsburys (other supermarkets are available...) sell iron-on mending strips which are pretty good and have done the job in the past. Just be careful to use a cloth between the iron & the rug/strip so you don't melt any man-made fibres!! Only problem is that the strips aren't very wide - you can get bigger patches from haberdasheries, if you can find one of those these days. Happy mending!
