So tonight is Spring's first night out since last summer. Only 3 others have gone out and only one other is in a nearby paddock. She was absolutely fine about going out - if a little bemused! And settled down to graze immediatley. She followed me about in the paddock and watched when I left but I hung around out of sight and she soon started grazing again. I checked her before I left and she was near the gate (although the horse near her was having a feed and she was watching him), she neighed when I left but hasn't been shouting for other horses.

Being a touch paranoid I have just been and checked her again and she is grazing happily - so why am I still worrying?!! She has lived out lots before and is not showing any signs of being stressy but I know I won't sleep well tonight!! Is anyone else as daft and paranoid about their horses?!

I am daft about mine, well I have managed to chill out a bit now but I used to panic so much, I am awful when I go on holiday I worry so much.
I wouldnt worry she will be fine in the field, they love it

my mother worried about it, she says 'they should be tucked up at night' !! horses naturally live outdoors, i'll bet yours loves the freedom of being able to walk around at night

WesternriderH is right - they're neds and trillions of years of evolution have made them happiest outdoors. What might confuse or upset Spring is just the change in routine - bet she soon settles. {{whispers: I'd fret for a few nights too...shhhh}}

Thanks everyone - she was absolutely fine! She came in this morning having stuffed herself all night and I think she will need a good sleep this afternoon!! My main worry was if she would settle with so few other horses out and without her best friend, but she didn't seem bothered in the slightest.

So I am very happy and relieved and can finally concede that summer is here!
