Just putting some feelers out, but I was wondering what people thought of the situation below, and if it's something that horse owners may want?

I have just started riding again (yesterday) after a 7 year gap. I rode at a riding school, but was left feeling a little unsatisfied. When I rode previously, I shared horses for all but my first year when I was having lessons.

I loved the bond I developed with the horses, and enjoyed being around them, doing yard work as well as riding.

I'm not ready to buy yet, so the obvious answer to my 'riding school' dislike would be to share.

But I am a runner and frequently race. I do ultramarathons so they generally take all day, and if I have to travel around the country, can take up all weekend. Also I sometimes have to work late nights many days in a row.

So I couldn't commit to sharing on a set day. I could however plan in advance 2-3 months or so, but it may be a couple of evening and two weekends days one week, then nothing for a few weeks. Is it likely anyone would be interested in such a share?

I would obviously look to pay either a monthly/per day contribution, and do all jobs. I'd just like to be more involved than a riding school client, but at least for the moment, can't commit to regular ownership.

Any thoughts?

Are there horse owners out there who would appreciate irregular days off?

The lady i ride for is fab with days as they change every week due to work commitments - the lady i used to ride for also ran it more of a pay as you go think which worked out expensive if you could do 3 days a week but would have been good for your situation

Yes I'd be happy with that arrangement, I like to be flexible. I need a sharer to help with exercising and help with costs but don't necessarily need one to cover jobs as I'm there anyway so they don't need set days or times with me.

Thanks all for your responses, that's good to know, and hopefully I will be able to find something suitable when I'm ready.

I want to continue with the lessons for a bit first, so I can get back into it without getting overhorsed and scaring myself off, but maybe later in the summer I could start asking around.

Farrierlover - I'm in SW London, and at the moment I don't drive, so would possibly be dependent on public transport to get to yards, which I'm sure will hinder my options.

I wouldn't have a problem with that. I ride after work but like to have a night or two off and it doesn't matter when. I also have to travel for work so a sharer who might want to take advantage of extra days when I'm away would be good. I'm not looking for a sharer atm but I probably will be in a couple of months if you're looking then. I don't have a car so rely on public transport too.

JenJ, as an interim option, if you're in SW London I *think* Wimbledon Village Stables do a sort of help out & ride deal. You have to get there (very) early but that might be worth asking about if you want to get back into the other side of horses too.
