Irresponsible breeding!

Met a woman yesterday (who was lovely, if a little clueless) who owned two mini schnauzers. One a year old male and then a 7month bitch. And she said she is waiting for the bitch to come into season to breed

I said, personally we'd never breed until bitch is at least two years old (hoping she might take a hint) and she was like 'oh, not even on it's second season?' and I'm like errr, no! Poor little shnausie is going to end up pregnant very soon! I just hope the mating isn't successful

AND she is letting the boy go to a bitch just cos the woman fancies 'some cute puppies' Oh dear me. This other woman has no experience breeding either

EEEEEEEK! Secret spaying mission required there...
A woman came to our house and asked if Mumsie knew anyone with a long-hair GSD that she could breed her long-hair bitch to.
Never mind hips, character, the fact that it is a glaring big fault (don't get me wrong, I love long-hairs, but it is) , as long as it has long hair.
I'm glad I wasn't there....

Not only that you can't hipscore/health test a dog or a bitch until they're one year old so she could be breeding health problems aswell

Poor bitch. One of our rescue GSD's had had 3 litters and was just two, all of the litters were sired by her own father

I would. That's a bit sick. Can you put it into human terms for her? I hate anthromophowotsiting animals, but with things like breeding and working, it puts things into context.

We lost her at 13 (a grand age considering she'd had those pups, been beaten, fed left over bacon and eggs and takeaways and when thrown up been hit until she licked it back up - some people

Some people really sicken me. I know some guys who field trial their dogs and the way they treat them is shocking

But 2 years does apply to larger dogs (not sure about schnauzers) but little dogs such as minature pinschers apparently are ok from 18 months old just going on what have read elsewhere... and obviously temprament - some dogs are more mature than others.. Anyway the KC says they must be at least a year old...

Guess I'm just old fashioned as 2 years is what I've always been taught and it's what I'd prefer to stick to (regardless of breed) but guess that's just me.

Two years is the norm over here, too, and definitely for female dogs, but I do know a couple of people whose stud Boston Terriers were eighteen months at first litter, but only where it was merited (patellas and eyes had been cleared; dog had already become a champion). If I was a breeder, though, I'd still wait until two-years-old.

As for that woman, I would have wanted to smack her upside the head. Poor fuzzy Schnauzer. Maybe you can suggest she talk to her vet about it; sometimes even eejits listen to a higher authority.

I've had several BT owners approach us over the years, wanting to know if Stella would like to be bred to their dog. When I tell them that she's spayed, they try to suggest that I'm a fool or even cruel

Unfortunately it was a chance meeting as she has a caravan near the NW course and we were up at the practise yday and got chatting.

She was the most adorable little thing. She hadn't even had her first clip yet ad had had fuzzy schnauzer fur. I remember when The Beast was like that

I should have pointed out she won't be able to KC reg them if doglet is under 1 year, but I was that shocked TBH.
