I was browsing on a website yesterday and came across an advert for lab x jack russell puppies.

Upon reading the advert, it turned out that the MOTHER was the JRT, and the father the lab.

Am I right in thinking this is really wrong as to me it sounds very irresponsible? Unless there is something I'm missing?

At the vets i work at i have seen similar cases and have found that the owner tends to have been irresponsible by not getting the dogs neutered/spayed, allowing them to come into contact when the bitch is in season and then seeing an opportunity to make money off the puppies with little regard for the welfare of the bitch or puppies. Whether the mating was accidental or not (owner poss trying to breed a mini lab???) i would imagine the owner was irresponsible in some way or another.

The really scary thing to me is that these crazes are often fuelled by people who should know better searching out and buying the puppies!!!

It makes me so sad that people that should know better are saying "oh I like the look of that funnynamedthing or a A x B where can I get one???

1, what's to guarantee that any brother or sister will look or act remotely like the one in the picture,
2, you are encouraging the breeding of more puppies to uncertain futures.
3, The person doing this is going to make even more money without sticking to welfare, health or registration rules.
4, It is highly unlikely that quality dogs and bitches from any breed will be used in this way!! So getting a pup where both parents are disease tested would be as rare as rocking horse Sh**!!

There are so many breeds and more to the point mix breed rescues (the result of this craze) out there, so stupid General Public aside, why oh why do supposedly experienced dog people feel the need to support a trend and part with a lot of money for something that could turn out to look and act like anything!!!

We are from all over the country here so lets start looking at the local papers and do what Cayla does, shop these idiot "breeders" to the Tax man maybe then if they actually have to shell out money at least some of the indiscriminate breeding will stop. Just because these dogs are not in a puppy farm doesn't mean they are not being abused and breeding a lab to a tiny JR is about as irresponsible as a dog owner can get!
