Irresponsible Owners

Oh my.

Assuming this was a front gate and the same gate that a postman would walk through, then I don't think you did anything wrong at all.

yes front gate and chin height so I didnt see. But luckily no post man as we all have post boxes at the main entrance. I didnt really do anything wrong, but I didnt do anything right either. I should have looked first. Lesson learnt. I'm going to have to go and have stitches now as well I think. I've been waiting all day for a car to be dropped off and it hasnt turned up yet, so I'm stuck here till it does. But looks like I'll be at a&e this evening infuriatingly.

You could not make this up. I got bitten again, by a different collie. Nearly took the end of my finger off and I'm going to have to go for stitches, but first I have to wait for a car to be dropped off. Probably my fault this time, as I was delivering a neighbour's post and put my hand over the top of the gate not knowing it was there and it jumped up and bit me. All these years and all the stupid stuff I have done and I get bitten twice in a few weeks! After I finished crying I did laugh becuase COME ON! this is ridiculous!
This is appalling! I hope you heal super quickly and without issues. Unbelievable that you were bitten twice recently! I just can’t imagine leaving out a dog that potentially would bite someone. 😡 Utter bonkers.

Hope the car was delivered and you’re getting your hand looked after.

This is what my leg looked like a couple of days ago! I'm lucky I guess that I've got rock hard calf muscles most of the time and the bloody thing couldnt get a grip with its lower teeth. I've not seen the dog since and am 90% sure shes being evicted, but am just generally keeping a low profile while its all sorted out. I always assumed one day I'd be bitten by a dog through my own stupidity, never occured to me one would go mental and take a chunk out of me!

Nightmare, damn thing evidently meant business, lucky no worse!
And thankfully you had a broom to give it a good clout, and the courage to use it - too often hear ludicrous excuses about an aggressive animal being in pain, scared, trying to communicate something…..yeah.
Hope your bite(s, seen other incident) recover as quickly and straightforwardly as possible.

I know, and when I think of all the damn stupid things Ive done to and with dogs, and then to get bitten twice in a month when I'm not doing anything is so ludicrous what can you do but laugh and shake your head at the ridiculousness of it. My fingers are ok. They swelled up hugely and really hurt, but have gone back down now and are uncomfortable but not too bad. They've been dressed in fancy dressings to promote healing and I have to be super careful as I'm type 1 diabetic and I've got pretty bad nerve damage in my hands, so if anyones fingers are going to go manky its mine. They bled a lot which hopefully has helped keep any infetion away, and so far so good!

Sadly for the dog hes being PTS. I agree with the decision to do that, but am sad for him as in other hands he wouldnt have gotten to this point, but what can you do. I'm just relieved these owners are at least being responsible about it, even if its very sad for all concerned.

Good luck with the fingers!
At least it won’t be biting anyone else’s, which is the main thing.

Was her dog on a leash? It's definitely sensible to keep dogs on a lead at this time of year with the fading light. I couldn't believe how many dogs were off leash in the pitch black tonight when I was out with mine.

Off topic, but you've just reminded me of our local Self Appointed Dog Expert (who at the time of this conversation was buying muzzles for his dogs to stop them eating the interior of his car) who advised me in all seriousness to train my dog's recall by letting her off the lead in the dark so she got too frightened to leave my side 😁

Gawd. We love off lead fun in the pitch black.

Thankfully no other dogs to run into. We are out at the Witching hour.

No the second one. Theres been ongoing issues and this was just a step too far. The other one hasnt been seen since so I've got no idea what happened. I think its still there as I heard barking. Honestly, this place is not somewhere to live if you care about animals at all. I'm out in January, sooner if I can sort something.

My friend popped into mine at about 12.15pm today, let herself in, walked through to the front room, picked up a letter and left. She messaged me to say the dogs didnt even look out from under the duvet when she put her head round the door to check they were still alive 😂 😂

I force the younger one out for a wee at 8am before I go to work, but the old boy gets to stay in bed till I get hime at 12.30pm and even then I've got to pull the duvet back and issue threats

Like Doggers? Or Jehovah's witnesses? A Wallaby?

Nothing would surprise me in this town. I did meet someone striding along in one of those inflatable dinosaur costumes not long ago.

A few months ago, two members of the non-static community having a fight, she asked me to call the police as he'd threatened her with a screwdriver. When I said I would when I was a safe distance away from them and had settled the dog down, he called me a religious slur.

Less crazy, I never met anyone walking a dog up my lane after 11pm in ten years until a big offleash GSD landed on my small one's head with neither it nor the handler wearing any lights.

So yeah, leashes round here, even late at night/early morning and in the dark. I eat a lot of carrots but I can't see what mental thing might be about to happen round the corner.

Brilliant!

We’ve said lead walks only from next week, we’re too paranoid to let them go round here in the dark. M is the clumsiest dog I’ve ever had and G is 1000 miles an hour, preferably through undergrowth, plus we sometimes see sus dogs.

Pet peeve: dog owners ambling along the trail with their heads buried in their phone, totally oblivious to their environment and whatever their dog is doing. We were trying to make some time and distance today and mostly did not due to the number of dog walkers who were totally oblivious. No incidents, luckily, but we had to stop and wait, a lot, for owners to notice us and gather up their dog. And we wear more orange than a construction site. Even shouting “Excuse me!! Horse ahead” doesn’t achieve a lot.

They always look dead shocked too. “Oh, my god. So sorry. Didn’t see you.”

Can you really miss this?

They were out in force yesterday.
At our local country park and a black lab came bounding over to me and jumped up and nearly knocked me flying. The owner was a walking stick user, some 100 yards away, shouting “I’m sorry he’s jumping all over you!” The dog proceeded to run halfway back to her and then back at me and jumped on me again. I was covered in mud and he also scratched my upper thigh enough to make it bleed (which I realised when I got home).
He then started worrying my dogs, who were both trying to warn him off, while the owner was still making her way over shouting “I’m sorry he’s jumping on you!” She had zero control and didn’t even appear to have a lead on her. I had to wash my jods and jacket when I got back, such was the mud all over them.

Then a bit further on, I encountered a woman and two young boys. On a narrow path, me and my dogs stopped to let her, her kids and her dog through and the oldest kid (6ish) suddenly grabbed my dogs cheeks, loomed over her and kissed the top of her head
Thank god my dog is very good and wouldn’t hurt a fly, but she was clearly a bit uncomfortable by it.
The mother just stood there smiling at her sweet child…

I decided that was enough people for one day.

I would have to have told that mother, you are lucky your child didn't lose its face. What a stupid person she is.

Fun round her t’other week.

New lady in hamlet took dog for a walk. Met another neighbour (who’s dog walks beautifully for other half but is a terrible puller with them)

Terrible dog lunges to meet new dog. New lady gets knocked over, break a hip. On a rail crossing. And the barriers came down just at that moment. Someone had to grab the poor woman off the crossing.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😳
