Irresponsible Owners

we have a couple with a pair of large boisterous young gsd. Brother and sister. Owners intend to breed the bitch to another dog but have no intention of neutering the male. Good luck with that one. Same dogs have draqged the male owner across grass in their attempts to chase a small dog. Have also chased another small dog home when said owners thought it a good idea to let the dogs off the leads and more recently told me that they were sad as their dogs just wanted to make friends and weren't aggressive. Said female then proceeded to pin mine to the floor in dominance. Needless to say everyone walks in the opposite direction now when they see them coming.

Well the waffle really was lip service as a couple of reactive dog owners chimed in, having picked up on a bit about off lead dogs saying a brief hello being fine, apparently it was only the chasing and barking that was not acceptable, the organiser doubled down on 'let dogs be dogs!', 'they will sort it out themselves' etc. and predictably comments now closed. 🙄
what I didn’t get was that when I read it no one in the comments had gone 3 times, you let them do it 3 times!

She seemed very keen on the group dogs having a more enjoyable walk so they let them all off 🙄

Yep, once wasn't enough! I think it's been deleted now, unless it was also posted elsewhere. I'm glad the walk locations will continue to be publicised, so that I may avoid them like the plague.

ETA: I may be confusing two similar people, but there's an outside chance this is the same person I might have posted about a couple of years ago, who was unloading dogs from a van outside their house, dropped their leads and let them rush my young dog as we walked along the pavement.

Back to vets today to have the staple from biopsy removed, large waiting room and this time it was busy, we tucked ourselves in the corner, silly lady with albeit seemingly happy friendly dog arrives sits down and immediately lets dog sniff the dogs on either side, one of whom did not appreciate it, why do people do that?
Just keep your dog to yourself!

It's only saying hello 🙄

It's only saying hello 🙄
When my GSD was about 9 months old we were sitting in a local town square with friend and her GSD just watching the world go by, doing lots of focus stuff, when a woman with a labrador headed for us announcing "I promised her she could come and say hello". The roar of "No" from myself and my friend was in perfect unison, she looked most offended

Just keep your dog to yourself!

This thread in a nutshell!

My anti irresponsible anecdote of the week is that we passed a mum with a little girl in a pushchair, and I could hear them talking about how lovely the doggie was, which never happens with the big scary dog, and then the little girl said ‘HELLO DOGGIE’ and waved. So that was nice. 😌

My dog is very popular with strange dogs apparently, his owner less so😂

I might have been called a horrible old cow a couple of weeks ago as I yanked him miles away from a couple that were striding purposefully towards us with their JR.

Honestly, just what is it all about. And they get very affronted and indignant if you don't wish your dog to get up close and personal with theirs, even if your's is totally disinterested and sniffing something.

He was having a wee in the summer on a camp site I was on and a woman marched over with her BT. I couldn't believe it. There he was mid flow and she was telling hers to say hello and asking if he's friendly. NOT AT THE MOMENT!!

I am looking after a good friend's 11 years old dog, he is a Basset ( mother) crossed with Beauçeron- Labrador.

She is away for 5 days, he has never been away from home and since a puppy, he was never left alone....

It's a real problem, my friend takes him everywhere and he spend a lot of time in the car, if she tries to leave him at home, he howls...

He is quiet in the car but doesn't have much room he can't really turn around, also, he get's really stiff after lying there for hours on end...

He is rather slow and i can't really take him out with my Basset, besides, i have promised my friend that I wouldn't take them out together,
she is having a big op and is very stressed, she recently lost her husband and worries about something happening to her precious Scrat.

I've tried to leave him alone for 10 minutes but he makes such a racket that I've got worried about my neighbourgs.

During the day, he was ok but last night, he kept whimpering for hours.... He goes on and on, at the end, I placed his basket by my bed and stroked him
for a very long time till he finally fallen asleep from sheer exhaustion ( me too ! )

He is currently lying on my feet, whimpering away.... He refuse to eat his food but is rather interested by Nouille's chicken so at least he is ok with food.

Any ideas so I can spend a good night's sleep ?

I didn't tell my friend, she was in tears as she is missing him so much, she said that she talked to him at a distance... Well, maybe not loudly enough.

Thank you in advance

Ps, i refuse to sleep in his basket as for him being in my bed, it's a No ! He is 35kg and very hairy ! ;)

He sounds and looks so sad poor old thing. I am guessing she has never left him with anyone else before?

I don't think you can achieve much change in just five days. Especially at his age. Very difficult for you for sure you are sort of stuck for 5 days I think. He may start to settle and sleep at night though if he knows you are close by.

Good luck 🤞 🙂

So when someone on here next thinks of sneering at fellow dog owners for ‘quaking in fear’ when they meet large but clearly unfriendly dogs on lead, maybe they might reflect first on what can happen even if the dogs don’t slip their lead.

Poor people and small dog. The Newfoundlands’ owner (not a small guy, either) is just being towed across the road by his dogs.

Good news, Scrat settled well last night, I took his basket by my bed and stroked him for a long time he felt asleep
at the end. Between the front leg is a favorit spot.

Today, he seems better, he stopped whimpering and started eating.

My friend is coming out of hospital tomorrow so that's good.

She realise that it's not good for him to spend hours in the car while she is shopping or at the Doctors,
especially in the summer....

At home, she is going to leave him for a few minutes at the time, as you would do with a puppy.

As he getting older, he get's tired quicker and being on the go all day long isn't good for him, fingers crossed, they both can work something out.

I think that she is part of the problem as she is so attached to him, as soon as he starts whimpering she give up. He knows it and he has her wrapped around
his little paw.

He is a clever old boy ! It must be the Basset blood in him ! ;)

So glad your friend is coming home .
They will be so happy to see each other.
She does need to address it
It was an issue with Dram at one point not as bad as you describe .
My rules don’t allow the sit outside the loo type of behaviour send the dog to it bed teach it to stay.
When leaving
Exercise first
Get ready to go so you have a quick get away I then sprinkle bits of kibble about the rooms the dogs are free for a game of hunt the kibble
I then leave quickly.

My friend came out of hospital today, Scrat was extatic ! It was nice to see ! He is staying even closer to her now, following her into the loo...

I tried to talk about teaching him to be alone for a few minutes, for his own sake but she won't hear it....

Well, it's up to her, i tried to tell her that he was getting tired of being in the car and on the go all day but she is saying that he is used
to stay in the car.

Her husband was handicapped and they had a very big car with plenty of boot room for Scrat, now she has a nissan note, quiet a small car
for a big dog...

Hopefully, she will open her eyes at some point, i can't do anymore.

Today, he stayed in the car for 2h30 and coming out, he was really stiff....It made me wince tbh.... It's not nice to see, he needs a few minutes to get going again.

I was very lucky with Nouille, being a Basset and coming from a stud, she was used to be in a big group of dogs. The breeder was a bit worried about
her being alone.

Iv'e got her aged 7years old, and from day 1, I left her for a few minutes and she never complained. Now, she happily stay home and snores the day away !

In common with blaming the person who gets bitten, several people were blaming the passenger who was bitten recently on a bus by another passenger’s dog, stating without any evidence whatsoever that the victim must have provoked the dog.

The dog owner has now been identified.

ETA I christened my OAP bus pass recently on a 1.5 hour return trip from Chester to Liverpool. I was initially happy to see a dog board with his young male owner part way through, but the dog turned out to be nervous and unsettled. The owner was getting annoyed with him. I was very glad that they got off before my stop, so that I didn’t have walk to down the length of the bus past them 😳. Thank goodness there weren’t young kids around.

They say the dog savaged someone's knee, which seems a bit strange if the passenger had provoked the dog, I would have expected a bitten hand in that case.
Over here in France dogs are only allowed on trains and in most busses if they're in a bag if small enough or muzzled, which seems to me to be a very reasonable precaution. However, from doing a fair bit of travelling recently, most people completely disregard the muzzle rule. I find that crazy as I would not risk my dog ending up PTS for biting some idiot on a train that trod on his tail / got in his face / one of the other thousands of stupid things people do.
Last week as I was getting off the train, some one had an unmuzzled dog on an extending lead lied in the corridor about three seats down from the owner. No attempt to real the dog in to let other people pass. Dog looked calm enough, but it's just plain rude.
