My OHs parents own a little JRT. They took him to the vet yesterday to get him booked in to get the snip. While there the vet (one I refuse to go to) asked them whether they thought it was such a good idea and that they should use him for stud!

The JRT is a cracking wee dog, lovely temperament but it the worst put together dog I have ever seen. It has bandy front legs and it's feet stick out really badly (wee short, short legs but full length JRT body) and he has strange back legs too. I wouldn't be surprised if has problems with them later on in life.

To me it just seems so irresponsible for the vet to be suggesting that they should use him for stud? To me there are enough unwanted litters about as it is without adding to it.

***I'm speechless***Sounds like the dark old age when vets used to say a bitch should have a litter before being speyed.

Sounds odd, especially as now a days vets are all too keen to remove a dog/bitches reproductive organs asap!

Are they're getting him done any way? Certainly the vet shouldn't be persuading them to breed on from him if he's not very well put together, regardless of how lovely natured he is.

Thats excatly same as my new vet had said so i went somewhere else! They have lost a valued customer (i pay alot for cat food and medications).....

Perhaps it was just small talk and not meant to be taken seriously; just a compliment or a flattering joke. Don't think I'd change my vet because of this.
