Hi everyone.
I need some advice please, so I've been doing a bit of showing this year and we have done quite well at it. I do have an grey Arab (not everyone's type of horse) and I have been wearing A navy jacket which I believe is correct for him canary lemon breeches a lemon shirt and I was wearing a red tie. I ordered a browband that was mentioned to be navy and gold to go with my gold buttons and jacket. It's come but it's bright blue and silver 😵 I could send it back but I'm now in secret love with it but need to change my tie colour. HELP what colour should I go for to tie it all in pink blue argh I don't want to look like I'm wearing a blazer at school !!!! Any help would be appreciated I need to order one ready for Saturday

Thank you for reading my essay.

There's nothing wrong with grey arabs - I have one! :D :D :D

Can you get a tie in the same bright blue (royal blue?) as the browband? The tie could have a subtle stripe or spot design. Ebay have loads of ties.

Get yourself to the charity shops and take your brow band (that's what I did). You'll get loads of choice and pay peanuts that way. We bought what we thought were some pretty hideous paisley affairs last year and I cannot tell you how people have commented on them saying that they look fabulous (I'm pretty sure that they weren't ALL winding me up!)

Yayyy another arab person 😁
I was looking for one they seem to be more pale blue I haven't checked eBay actually could be a good idea. I'll have a look

My tie is a men's tie from eBay.
I will say however on an Arab a tweed is more correct than a navy jacket. If you choose to wear the navy jacket instead then please swap the buttons for navy ones as blingy buttons are not correct.

I have a tweed also, it's all confusing I was wearing my tweed to start with but then was told any classes after noon with Arabs should be navy. I didn't know about the buttons tho, thanks I'll change them.
Tie Knots... that's what the other half is for

Tie should match your jacket - With a Navy jacket I would suggest that you go for a light blue shirt with a Navy tie (or one that matches the colour of the jacket collar)

I would also suggest that as your browband is Silver and blue that you change the buttons on your jacket to tone with the colour of the jacket. Too much bling can make you look like a Christmas tree instead of elegant.

A Windsor knot is the best knot for a tie as it sits straight and the knot is even.

No idea where you got this from But it is not correct!
Jacket collars should never be anything other than navy on a navy jacket! On a tweed jacket they can either be navy, green or brown velvet or the same tweed as the jacket, no weird colours!
Take a look at photos of top riders you will not see a single navy tie with a navy jacket!
Red ties and cream shirts are the most popular along with navy jackets and with tweed jackets you match your tie to the overcheck in the jacket.

Navy with navy with blue is boring and you just won't see it!

Thanks everyone, I have discovered the OH has a work tie with 3 different types of blue in one of them matches the browband so I'm hoping this will do until I can find another one to match. (I'm sure he loves the horse smell really!) Today I'm going button hunting, it had never even crossed my mind and I'll get them stitched on ready for Saturday :)

I do think I know what I am talking about seeing as I showed at County level for decades, won countless turnout classes and also worked for Jennie Lorriston Clarke preparing her show horses.

Sometimes the collar on a jacket, especially if velvet fades slightly.

The modern trend seems to be get as many possible colours, stripes and dots as you can possibly manage. Quiet elegance is the look to go for and is slowly creeping back into showing.

I've shown at county level for decades as well and I currently show at county level in the UK in many different categories. I'm also a qualified judge.
A faded navy collar should be replaced or redyed but not matched by a tie!

Agree with you, re dye or replace, just pointing out that it looks more elegant if the tie matches the jacket, and if the collar and jacket are different colours ( there are some navy jackets kicking around with black collars ) that it looks better if the collar and tie match.
