Phoned up a farrier today, he quoted me £40 for two ponies to be trimmed. Is this reasonable?
I am in Nottinghamshire.

I pay £22.00 for a trim. When my filly chipped a hoof just before the futurity, my farrier came out as an emergency to neaten it up for me - said he'd just charge me for the 'call out' which was £15.00 apparently!

I only pay £10 per trim but I believe that the average is £20, so yes, reasonable.

sounds reasonable to me i'm in the very north of Scotland not edinburgh at he mo like location says lol but farrier charges £20 for a trim and £65 for a set of shoes

Very reasonable I'd say. There's no such thing as a cheap farrier because the ones that charge you less finish up costing you more. Why? Because they are trying to do so many horses in a day to make a living they finish up cutting corners and not giving due care and attention to the job.

I'd rather pay a farrier double to take his time and do a good job than pay later for having the consequences of not having my horses feet properly balanced!
