Is 10 too old for my dog to have a minor op?

My Border Collie is 15 years old now, he had a dental earlier this year when he was 14 and he had a malignant sarcoma removed from his leg 3 years ago, just a week before his 12th birthday. He did take longer to recover from the ga after the dental, being really sleepy all that evening, but was lively the next morning.
 
Unless he has health issues then no, it's not too old. Ours had his done last year and he was 15. He certainly smells sweeter now! :-D
 
My mini schnauzer x had her teeth done under ga recently. She's ten years old and epileptic. She was perfectly ok and recovered well, back to normal the following day.
PS her breaths a lot sweeter now!
 
was just talking to my colleagues yesterday about this. If I'd known then what I know now, I'd have had my old girl done when she was 15 and needing her teeth done. I was too frightened of the anaesthetic. I figured she was too old - she was with me another 2 years and she definitely would have felt much better if I'd had them done.

We had an old dog (15, nearly 16) in yesterday and he had full anaesthetic and 8 teeth out. It could well have extended his life, or at least give him comfort for whatever time he does have left.

Def ask for bloods first.
 
Get bloods done first to ensure no underlying organ problems. IF he has had GA in the past without issues then just go ahead. If he is a breed that carries little body fat (most working HPRs) then ensure your vets have a 'warm hands' protocol in place as the problem is that such guys drop body temperature very rapidly (more so than normal) and this is often what limits the time that they can spend under.
 
my old dog was 15 when she had a GA to have her teeth done, she came out of the GA absolutely fine, so try not to worry and trust your vet....good luck..
