I'm wondering as I seem to be having no luck finding a horse to even go look at never mind buy!

To be honest I am fussy and have only been looking again since Monday plus don't want to travel more than an hour from where I live but can't seem to find anything 15.1hh - 15.2hh (or 15.3hh at a very push) that is between 8-12 years old. It needs to hack out completely safe but I'd also like it to have no serious conformation faults and do a low level dressage, hunter trial and course of fences. Am I asking too much?

I asked this a while ago and people said I should find something but I can't! There is no set budget but anything over £5000 makes my OH go

15.3 is my perfect height, i think big horses seem to be the fashion at the mo so you should pick up a smaller neddie fine! look at the lovely boy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> at the top, not your area i know but there are plenty around like him, (i want him!) your budget seems plenty, keep looking!

Took me a while but ive got my 15.1hh and i have found it hard to find horses at that height.. most are 14hh or 16hh!

your budget is up to 5k... you surely must find something. i found what you're looking for... for 2.5k. only a month or so ago... and i was annoyed that all the ones i liked the look of were in Yorkshire - which was waaaay too far for me to go.

maybe you're being a bit strict with your height limit? are you looking too locally?

i'll get onto the case now...

Sorry meant to add and forgot - I'm needing a MW....something a bit chunkier if it's 15.1hh as OH is 6ft 2 but rides a 15.1hh at the riding school no bother (he weighs 13 st). We have a 16hh but although she was bought as a first horse she's really a second horse and a bit of a project. We want one to have a bit of fun on whilst 16hh horse matures and gets more experiences. New horse would have a home for life unless we didn't click. All I seem to find in Yorkshire area, that is at height we're looking at, is TBs which are too fine.

I had a 15.2 for sale for 7 months before just being sold about a month ago, only had 3 viewings in those 7 months so obviously round here its not!

I saw that last night and totally forgot to mention to OH.....we're like passing ship atm with his work. Yeah I like this one a lot - it's a gelding and chestnut, will maybe give them a call.

The grey and the bay both say no novices, grey says strong. I really need something that's not going to cause me much worry...I worry enough! See, I said I was fussy!

My present mare is a difficult ride sometimes...though she is getting much better (I'll ignore what a beast she was to lead in last night; she was is season again and I'll forgive her the blip!)

I've got one, but he's not going anywhere I'm afraid. You might have more success if you go down the cob route? Would you consider Welsh D or welsh x? Small TB's/ warmbloods seem to be a bit harder to find.

15.1-15.3 is a great height to have - big enough to jump big things and be a proper horse but small enough to get on from the ground with reasonable finesse (I ride in an area where the gates are not horse friendly, so this is a big consideration!). Also usually fit smaller rugs and tack, so sometimes cheaper.

I would love a cob - that would be ideal. I saw a really nice one a little while back but it needed a bit more work on the schooling side and I didn't have the time with my other project. I need something that I can get on and go.

I think your main problem is that you are not willing to travel. A good horse for a good price will often require you to travel to look at it.
I live in a very horsey area (thousands of horses) but because i was willing to travel (2 hours down the road) I got an absolutly stunning pony who was evrything i wanted and well within my price range and did so quickly!
It is very rare that you find your perfect horse close to home.

Mine sounds perfect for you, maybe we could clone him! Will dressage show xc showjump workers all above average level eg Novice dressage jumps over 3' shows at rihs levelwelsh d reg gorgeous personality very genuine and willing 15.1 good mw, novice ride
However I think people keep these types forever, they are big enough never to be outgrown cheap enough to keep hardy enough to go on forever, this is probably where they become difficult

I suppose I'm being cautious this time. I travelled 2 hours last time and, because of the trip, I only viewed it once before buying it - turned out that although she was an absolute plod the first time she was anything but in reality. She's a lovely horse and a great project but not a first horse.
I was hoping to view something a few times, possibly have it on trail...last few that have come to our yard have been local horses on trial.
I once travelled 4 hours to Scotland to view a horse and they forgot to tell me said horse was injured so tried to fob me off with a totally different one (and also not 16hh but about 14.2hh) so am really not keen to go through that again.

A few people on here have bought from Stubley but they seem very pricey and some of their horses are still extremely young...making me think they've not done much in the way of schooling but I could be wrong - I'll have another lok at their site.

ETA: Just looked and there are a few nice ones...still young and at top end (if beyond) budget but will show OH.

He would be more like £7000 as he is proven and correct that is if i dont find a job in the next month! " redundancies in the last 12 months has absolutely crippled me financially
