Morning all

Not a very serious question just something I was musing over this bright and sunny (I wish) Saturday morning.

I was looking at some photos last night of me jumping my boy who has just turned 15 and whilst I am more than happy just jumping for fun at a local level it did get me thinking it's just as well because he is too old now to embark on an affiliated career.

Am I correct? I know there are lots of horses competing at a very high level in their late teens but they are generally up there from a younger age and just maintain it.

Like I say I have no plans to do this and quite frankly whether Max is too old or not I am definitely too old and too scared to do it, I would just be interested to hear other's opinions and experiences :)

No I don't think you're correct. 15 is not old nowadays. If the horse is fit and well in himself and still enjoying his job there is no reason not to start at lower levels of affiliated eventing. You don't have to do them every week, just now and then, and you would obviously keep an eye on how the horse is feeling/doing..
