Badger is all settled in his new stables and has made friends with the mare and baby in the field next door. :)

Anyway, I really really want to go to a hunter trial next month but I doubt I’ll have transport by then. People on the yard don’t seem likely to want to go to a hunter trails either. It’s 5 miles (so 10 miles there and back) Do you think that’s manageable or too much like hard work for both of us?

He’s not mega fit at to mo but hoping to be much fitter by then..

easily, especially if he's fit. a horse walks at just about 3 or 4 miles an hour. so even if you just walked there you'd be fine. just allow plenty of time to get there and let him have a rest. Of course, the only constraint to getting home is the day light.

Can you get someone to meet you there with a car with water/hay/food for you etc on board?

OH isn't allowed to tow so he hacks my horse to go hunting. anything up to an hour in walk and trot to get to the meet, followed by a shortish day hunting and a hack home.

Used to do that sort of distance to shows regularly on my mare, very do-able should take roughly an hour each way. If you're unsure he's fit enough you could do a few practise hacks to the venue between now and then to be sure.

That is absolutely no distance at all, shouldn't cause you any problems:D

Easily done! :) Just keep working on his fitness between now and then, and I'm sure he'll breeze it :)

I agree go for it. I used to hack Lucy everywhere. One venue for showing, dressage and jumping was a 2 hour hack away and we trotted most of the way  But Lucy coped ok and even did well at the shows :D :D

Thanks guys. Only thing putting me off is it's on a fairly busy road.. but sure we'll cope. :)

OH can meet me there with water etc. :)
