Aah see I think your ad reads better than the original details you posted. Which makes him sound more like a £7k horse now. Add a good pic and you might well get alot of interest. He has very good bloodlines and I think a dapple grey always attracts attention. Also think your wording for ad is better than others suggested.
I think you've made him sound perfect - and from what you've said on here, he definitely isn't.
I think you need to put something in the ad about him being strong, and not a novice ride, or you're going to attract a lot of people who are totally unsuitable for a horse like him.
I also think he's slightly overpriced based on what you've said on here before - although in the advert he sounds like the best thing since sliced bread.
I just took £4500 for a 16.3hh stunning 6yr old gelding, perfect hunter, jumped bsja to disc that cribs. I could have sold him at least 3 times. I would mention he cribs in the advert though. Good proven hunters at the moment are like gold dust.
I agree what Anima says - really good hunters are hard to come by and there will def. be someone out there who needs a cracking horse to get straight on and go hunting. Stick to your guns for sure.
Having paid £5k for an unproven, recently backed girl - with very good breeding, I think that the £7k mark is about right. In a more bouyant market, I'd have expected the price to be £9k - £10k. He's the kind of horse I probably should have bought

I do think it is overpriced tbh.
It is the same amount that I paid for Queenie as a 10 year old, who had gone clear xc at novice BE, won foxhunter bsja and had a very consistent, recent PN record. She has no stable vices at all either. Granted, she doesn't hunt, so I cant compare her to hunting horses...

I thought you paid £9k for yours?
Starbucks, I don't think he is expensive, he seems to have done plenty allround and has the scope to go on. Good luck

Yep, him and every other horse advertised! Actually from previous posts I'd think this horse will be the best thing since sliced bread to the person who buys him as long as they're a competent rider and I don't think he's over-priced at all. He'd be £10k without the cribbing and unfitness, even if he can be strong.
I find this really interesting as our instructor recenlty told us even with his issues omar would be worth gold dust as a hunter. He's a big lad, could easily carry 17 stone all day and although he gets his knickers in a knot is just not a novice ride.
To me i thought he was mad - reading these replies maybe not!
Now wheres the advert number for H&H?!!
I think thats a bit of a horrible thing to say really spiral. What are these previous things that have made him sound so terrible?? Im not going to put not novice ride. Yes he is strong hunting and XC (but manageable in a snaffle with weak 9 stone rider so cant be that bad!) but hes perfect out hacking etc so its not like hes some kind of raving lunatic.
Everyone puts good things in adverts thats the whole point of them. I am yet to meet a perfect horse they are animals and not machines after all!! He is a good horse and everyone else seems to think he is from what Ive put on here so quite with the bitchy comments. I dont mind you insulting me but please dont insult my horse!!
I think I've advertised him anyway although I'm confused with H&H!! The pic I've used looks a little bit on the wild side so I'm hoping that will help attract the right kind of attention.
I don't think Spiral is being rude, just pointing out what you have said previously on the forum about him "decking" your mum, and often overtaking the fieldmaster and things like that. I must say you have always given the impression that he is a handful in your posts about him, but perhaps you have just been over-dramatic for effect!
I wouldn't pay 7k to be honest but if you're prepared to take close offers, and you're not in a rush to sell, then I'd leave the price as it is. You can always come down later if he doesn't sell, but if you sell too quickly you'll be wondering if you should have asked more.
On the other hand, most unspoilt horses will hunt most country comfortably and jump up to Newcomers easily. If he was 6-8 years old, then I'd be happier with the price, but for a 10yo he's done very little really.
Just the thoughts I'd have if I was looking - hope you don't mind. If I read that ad I'd be expecting about 6000 ono at the end of it.
(Also, please remember it's coming up to Christmas and we're in a recession...
He is a bit of a handful and my mum did have a bad fall from him but I think I have to give him the benefit of the doubt (and blame my mum
) for that one seen as he has been perfectly safe hunting with me for years.
Ok lets try another advert..
16.3 scabby fleebitten grey, A bit long in the back as well as the tooth. Experienced SJer but susceptible to 4 falsities. Makes ones arms ache hunting and XC, even once gave my mother head injuries from his antics! Gets crap marks dressage judges dont like him much. Once bucked me off 3 years ago. Doesnt like men or ponies generally a bit of a grumpy old sod. Price more important than home because weve never really liked him much. 50p ONO.
Thank you, i guess on the plus side of him not having done much is that he isn't knackered.
I will come down from 7 but if I advertised him at 6 and people would be wanting to knock me down from that wouldn't they. plus it's not like i'm desperate to sell. May as well start high I think.
LOL, much better! But I think you might even be able to get as much as 75p and a chewed toffee for him!
Seriously, I think your first ad was great, but just remember that if people see your ad on the H&H site, they are likely to be able to see your posts on here too!
Don't be childish - you asked for advice and was given it. You have posted in the past about how strong Badger has been and how hard it has been for you to find someone to work him/share him with you as he is not a novice ride. You can't get cross with people for reminding you of what you have said about your own horse! No one here has been rude about him from what I've seen. Being honest about him will get him the best home.
I think he's priced about right. Have seen this horse in the flesh (tongether with Rosie's Oshka) and his photos do him NO justice. He stood waiting quietly at teamchases, popped a few practice jumps (quietly) and took SB on a good fast but safe round. He jumps well, and SB (who really is petite) didn't seem to have aching arms when she returned. She was infact grinning like a cheshire cat. He is *easily* on par with Oshka, just a little older and a little more experienced. He's not a novice horse, but IMO would be the making of some pony club teenager looking for a fun horse to take them through the ranks.
Every horse has it's quirks and I'd say Badgers only quirks are that he's very keen to get the job done, but he's SAFE. Every horse has potential to 'deck' a rider on the hunting field.
TGM - don't worry I think this is being directed at me. I have NOT accused you of lying SB - please point out where I have. I am also not being aggressive - I'm sorry you have taken it that way. I think Badger is a cracking horse and would love to hear that he has gone to a lovely home. I'd hate to hear of him going off to someone who he was a bit much for and him being passed on after a couple of months that's all.
The only issue I would have with your ad is the fact that it says he is "well-mannered" which seems to be at odds with what you have said on here about him being strong and a handful, although I appreciate he may be "well-mannered" in other respects such as not kicking, etc. It might be wise to put in the ad, as others have suggested, something about the fact that he is a bit strong and/or not a novice ride, otherwise you will be fending off loads of calls from people who want a nice sedate hunter.

Precisely. Good luck!
Oh and people - grow up, you're boring me. Walk away!

plenty of scope to go further in both SJ and eventing

but, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't you say you'd done a bit of PN with him but his dressage wasn't up to much?
I also agree that I wouldn't class a horse who can be a bit strong and likes to be at front, has overtaken field masters horse as well-mannered....for a hunter, I would expect well-mannered to mean goes first or last, never pulls etc etc....
Based on all I've read and the advert text, I really do agree that you need not novice ride or something to that effect in there (fantastic hunter for an experienced rider?)....if I were to ring up from that advert, I would be expecting a horse that will hunt with a more in-experienced person on board to have a leisurely day....able to take someone who has perhaps only hunted a couple of times....
Only you can decide on the price and as others have said, he is worth what someone will pay, but I do feel that you may have an awful lot of wasted conversations with people who think he is something he isn't quite.
Hope no offence caused...he's obviously a talented horse for the right rider....
Ok thank you - I see what you mean. I meant well mannered as in doesn't pratt around/hot up, stands still while you get on/have a pee/drink etc., That's what i think of as maneraly but you a probably right. Might be too late though.
I intend to be uber honest with people. There is no point in him going to someone who he wouldnt suit. I just dont want to put that hes strong on the add. I find him strong but if say, a bloke bought him (or someone who has muscles) they might find him totally normal.
Not wanting to have an argument with anyone here people. Sorry if I got a bit defensive but you know how it is where horses/pets/loved ones are concerned.
