Is 7k really that much?

He’s not great at dressage but not that bad that he couldn’t do a novice test.. I was exaggerating with my bad add.. I was hoping that would be obvious. He’s also not good at dressage because he needs work not because he can’t/won’t do it.

Anyway there wasn’t room for that bit in the add. I’m obviously just too good at writing adverts.

I think Royal Lass's description of 'fantastic hunter for an experienced rider' is a great line if it is not to late to put it in. More positive than saying 'strong' or 'not novice ride'.

If his cross country is his main strength and it is his dressage and four faultitis that lets him down a bit eventing, then he would also make a fantastic Tetrathlon horse for an experienced teenager.
 
I have a 17.1hh WB gelding who has a terrific nature, has competed (but not won) BSJA, has shown working/ridden hunter, is competing up to unaff Elem dressage, is good in company on the roads, fantastic at one day events (unaff) and has been on loads of pleasure rides where he is brilliant, and can be ridden straight from the stable after a week of not being ridden without a problem. He is easy to catch shoe box and is very handsome. He was insured for £7K when 10 but now I think he may be worth about £5.5K due to his age.
 
Yes I think that would work well. I’m not sure what’s going on with the H&H thing actually I’m thinking they will call me or else I’ll have to call them so I can reword then. I really need to focus on work now so must go!

Why aren't you advertising him diretly through your hunt?

Do they not have a website with a 'for sale' section? I know a lot of hunts do.

You let the hunt secretary and the master know that he's for sale, and what the price is. And ask them to spread the word. Hunting has started - they are seeing the members twice a week.......

If he's that good - someone will bite your arm off

and just bear in mind there is no such thing as the perfect ad either - you may mean one thing (such as your comments about his dressage) but to someone else it sounds like he is awful on the flat! why dont you write his ad ( and I think the suggestions on here were very good). Leave it overnight and read it "fresh" and see how you think it comes across.

My personal hatred on ads is "no timewasters" as that puts me off going anywhere near the horse although I DO appreciate that the people who put that up will probably have been mucked about by the "free ride brigade"

Any one else noticed that (cant ever remember this happening before) - horses that have passed a 5* vetting and then the sale has fallen through "due to the circumstances of the purchaser". Can't call them timewasters as why would you fork out for a 5* vetting if not serious but am seeing a lot of horses back on for that reason..
 
They have a website but I don’t think it has a for sale bit on it. I’ve told my mum to tell people. The FM wants to borrow him on Saturday (so he must think he’s good!!) would maybe be a good way to show him off?? I’m a bit worried though because he’s a biggish guy and I’m not used to letting people borrow my pony!! (I told him he might be able to borrow him when I was drunk at hunt ball the other week!!)

Its because we are in the middle of a recession. They have probably had the vetting etc in good faith and then have been made redundant etc. It happens and it happens without warning and it changes your circumstances for a long time. Those people are probably kicking themselves for spending the money of a 5* vetting as its money they may desperately need all of a sudden.

The best way to show him off. Make sure he knows he's for sale - and he has first refusal. With a decision by the end of the day...

I don't think you're being very fair SB - I am being honest, not bitchy or horrible.

I think Badger is a fantastic horse but personally if I was writing that advert I would put something along the lines of him being strong or not a novice ride, simply because otherwise the ad is likely to attract lots of inexperienced people wanting a nice quiet hunter - which by your own admission, Badger isn't!

I really haven't implied once that he is "terrible," a "raving lunatic" or not a "good horse" so I think you're being unnecessarily defensive. I think he is a fantastic horse for the right person, but I stand by my opinion that the advert makes him sound like he would be perfectly behaved for anybody, and that will attract plenty of unsuitable people which will be a waste of your time and theirs.

Its not meant to be nasty, just honest advice, which I had thought you wanted.
