Is a Wintec 500 likely to suit a cob?

I only ask as a am a bit of a Wintec fan, I think the quality is excellent for the money :)

I have a 14hh cob who is shaped more like a native pony. He has fairly broad shoulders and a well sprung ribcage, but his back isn't actually that wide.

I recently purchased a 'Wintec Wide' and found it was a little on the large side, even with the red (wide) gullet in. The very wide panels at the back were also too broad and stuck off the sides of his back in mid-air :D

The NEW Wintec 500's (not the old style, have one of those for my veteran and the tree wouldn't suit cobby) look fairly similar to the 'wide's', only a little less WIDE :D

Is this the case? I hae heard the trees are a lot flatter nowadays! :)

I have a wintec 500, not sure if its old or new but i bought it second hand last year, to back my youngster in. He is a welsh x tb but has a barrel belly where he still has to grow and fits him fine but not perfect. he has the xw gullet but could do with going up one.

I had an old Wintec 500 to back my then youngster in and it was too narrow down the back - He's an Anglo and very deseptive:D Just goes to show what we think may work doesnt necessarily

I have a new style Wintec 500 (as well as a new style 2000, old style 2000 and old style 500!), and the panels definitely do look a bit flatter on the new style. It's difficult to compare for definite though, unless I try to shape a bit of wire along the underneath maybe? I might do that, as I'm quite interested in finding out for myself the difference.
