Is Alexandra Tolstoy the most annoying person in the horse world?

Good gosh. I just watched the second in her series. I feel compelled to because I think it's such a good programme. But oh my lord I find her cringeworthy to watch.

She acts like a spoilt little girl, yet her voiceovers seen quite professional. I wonder if she *facepalmed* when she saw how idiotic she looked?
 
I guess it is different when you are there and doing something to watching back and adding a voiceover. I mean, surely there are some cases when you have acted foolishly and wished you could do them again in a more sensible/mature way, not just have to add a voiceover and broadcast it to the country if there are bits she is ashamed of that must be quite difficult to do.

(having said that it always takes me a few minutes to get used to her voice )

Not everyone who watches the programme will know anything about horses, and I expect she has been told to bear this in mind and respond to situations in a non-horsey way so the viewer doesn't feel stupid! I actually like her - I think she's gutsy and genuine. And I have seen a lot of criticism of her from 'horsey' people, who might think about how she might have been 'directed' to act. She won't have made the programme on her own, you know.
 
I think she was a bit naive in some of it last Tuesday.

She was told by the cowboy that the broncs were specially bred for their bucking ability. She didn't seem to realise, or know, that the cinch that is round their rear is the actual cause of them broncing, not because they are bred to bronc!!

The funniest thing for me was the fact that there was an Indian called Kenny!! Never heard that name being used on 'Dances with Wolves' LOL !!
 
I am torn between thinking she is the most annoying person I've watched, or the most stupid.
And the three other people who have seen her programmes think the same, so it can't be just the OP and I.

That's a bit harsh. Her voice is vaguely irritating but she is one very brave lady. If she annoys you, don't watch!
 
Yes it is negative but it's true!

Surely as a 'horse person' she must know what they use to make horses buck at rodeos.

She's not the most annoying person but she doesn't do herself any favours by being totally unopinionated. Did she not realise that once the cinch is loosened then the horses miraculously stops bucking?!!?

I admit she is brave in that she gives it all a go but she is a bit of a whinger at the same time!!
 
I don't think she was annoying at all, i think she reacted genuinely to the situations. I think I would have been pretty shocked at some of the things she came across and she had to do some pretty scary things. The people she had to deal with all warmed to her pretty quickly.
It could have been some know all that did the programme which i think would have been annoying.
 
This is the reason horse programmes are so far and few between. I think horse people are incredibly critical over any horse related coverage! they assume everyone watching it knows what there talking about.
 
i thought she was pretty annoying, but most of all i was disappointed by how wussy she was about the barrel racing... i can think of hundreds of riders who would have had a good crack at it on a good experienced horse (which she had.)
she's pretty and the camera loves her, and she comes across as intelligent - could be worse i guess.
 
I thought she was really likeable and interesting to watch. I found it great that she wasn't some sort of top super horsewoman who didn't bat an eyelid at some of the situations she was in. I liked that she addmitted how she was feeling and thought I'd feel the same in those situations!!
 
How did you learn about the cinch assisting with the bucking? Were you born with this knowledge or did you learn it?

I think she's actually rather charming. And makes a refreshing change when it comes to the world of equestrianism on the box.
 
I liked her. She had a couple of irritating mannerisms but she did a good job of explaining some aspects of the horse world to non-horsey people. She was direct, brave and clearly hit it off with the people she was involved with.

If you look at her website you'll see she's done quite a bit more horse-wise than many of us, I suspect.
 
I was a bit surprised that she hadn't ridden bareback before and also that she couldn't get the hang of the barrel racing - how I would love that! Still, going out and doing it in those circumstances must have been pretty intimidating and I suspect that we'd all be a bit taken aback at just how fast those horses go!
 
I actually quite like her

The fact that whilst filming this she was pregnant with her first child I am suprised how many things she did try.

I had a friend who is very experienced on horse but as soon as she was preggers wouldn't even ride her own safe horse where as Alexandra was getting on strange horses doing strange things good on the girl.
 
I really enjoyed the programmes, and I think that was partly because of her. I found her natural, real, charming... everybody she met seemed to warm to her and take her in to their world. I think she came across as a really nice horsey person which frankly was a relief. I think she was grateful for everything she was able to do with some amazing horses and respectful to those who did things she may not necessarily agree with.
 
I'm just about to watch the rodeo program. The one I was referring to was the Spanish program (episode 2). All the way through she would scream and yelp and moan like a kid.

Maybe she's 'bucked' up her act in the third one, which is why some of you thought otherwise.

I have not been into horses for a long time. (I met a girl who's trying to convert me... and well I'm trying). She also thinks this woman is so hard to watch.

Someone said "Don't watch it then!"
Well, I'd usually take that attitude, but the program is actually very interesting.
 
I have nearly finished watching episode 3.

I have to say I found her a joy to watch in this one. I guess she watched the previous two episodes, or the producer had words.
