Is anyone a Vet Nurse?

It's messy and bloody, the clients can drive you mad, the emergency shifts can be killers, it's sad and heart breaking and at the same time rewarding and different.
I love nights but dont like days, so im sticking with the emergency shifts:p
I would not work full time so only do a few shifts a week.

Worst = watching puppies die of parvo, nurse them all night then they die in the early hours, my last shift entailed this, my heart breaks when I open that isolation door.
Owners blaiming me for their animals being ill and them not being able to afford for them to be seen, and people breeding from pets who dont have a soddin clue and cannot afford emergency treatment when everything goes tits up:mad:
Healthy dogs being Pts for sod all, or the msot pish poor excuse, for them to return with a new puppy.
Seeing old dogs belonging to old people (only companion being pts)
Being woken up at all hours by non genuine emergencies.

The good= Seeing them (animals) pull through, from anything when they where on deaths door.
Seeing there cheery waggy tailed response when I talk to them silly and have a cuddle, I have literally lad beside them in their kennesl through the night before:o
Owners who care for their dogs and are grateful for the are you give their pet.
The feeling of helping to calm a hysterical owner in an emergency.
Working alongside lovely caring and talented vets.
My animals are treat for pennies.

It's not for the faint hearted and you will never get rich= thats why I have my business outside of work.

Kitsune, I am currently *trying* to get into vet nursing, it is so difficult and competitive it is unreal! (well, over here anyway)

I thought you where going to set up boarding kennels missus?
I am soft really, esp when animals are poorl, they need cuddles:p

Nope, wouldn't try set up boarding kennels over here, way too competitive! It's crazy, they are everywhere!

I had looked into VN, then thought I didn't want to then I got into a really good vets to do work experience with the nurses and really, really loved it :D

I am (for 18yrs god help me!!)

Best bits - seeing animals go back to their owners when we really havn't thought they'd pull through. Meeting some of the nicest and funniest animals that bring a smile to your face. Meeting some amazing clients. Working with some great people who really care.

Worst bits - seeing some animals not pull through especially parvo cases. Animals owned by stupid ignorant people, mostly owned by people with more money than I'll ever earn but begrudge every single penny. The constant mess that the vets leave for us to clean up. The pay and hours.
