Is anyone an Animal Behavourist/Trainer?

I have a bit of an issue with my dog, she has always been allowed to come out to the field to do the horses with me, which she adores and leaves them well alone and chases birds and butterflies. Recently she has been taking herslef out there on her own accord by jumping the hedge and barking at the horses not leaving them alone.

She is very well behaved and will come stright back to me, down side is she is now taking our terrier out with her and when they are together my dog just wont listen to me and i have to physically go across the get her from somewhere in the field.

Its hard for me to get her back when she is with the terrier but its even harder for my mom, who is here most days as im at work.

How can i get her to switch off from the other dog and listen to me again and my mom?

Is there anyway i can train her to stop jumping the hedge as saying 'NO' doesnt seem to work.

Can anyone help me??

Two dogs are a pack. It really isn't a good idea to allow two dogs to roam because at lambing time (if you are in a stock rearing area), they will go missing. Sheep farmers have ways of dealing with stray dogs that threaten their lambs and lambs are a lot smaller than horses!

I'd suggest making your garden area secure or kennelling the dogs, preferably both, but at least one.

You might be able to train the dogs to behave while you are about but now they've discovered freedom, I wouldn't trust them if they were mine. They find chasing the horses is fun. That is annoying but they are all your animals. What happens when they start to look for new fun and venture beyond your field and for fun with stock that doesn't belong to you?

In the meantime, perhaps a trip to your local library to browse the section containing books on dog training? There are lots out there and it isn't that difficult so no need to spend money on professionals.

David Ryan is one of the best if not the best behaviourist in the country, if you search on Youtube Im sure you will find lots of his videos.

Dryrot is absolutely right two dogs are a pack.

If you want your dog to listen to you and your mum only real answer is get out and do some recall training under distraction. No idea what breed you have but find your self if you can a class that does both outdoor and indoor training (any gundog training class will do and they are usually cheap, don't worry if you get some looks just explain why your attending!).

If your dogs not 100% the simple answer until you can get it resolved and steady again is not to take to the yard or to tie up when your doing your tasks.
