As I just saw , the forecast states hot all week !
Is anyone risking competing next weekend ? I don't think I will as too worried about injuring my horse !

I have pulled out of going anywhere for the next week due to real hot weather and hard ground. I hate it, my horse hates it so I am not bothering. Always another day and I do it for enjoyment .

I have one doing it's first event at Hatherleigh on Sunday, it is the first comp of the season so will be going, if I had been out regularly I would probably take a break while the ground is hard, I certainly would not be jumping a young horse until the ground eases or only on a surface.

Mine had a nice confident run 2 weeks ago. He had an easy week last week & for the next month it will be lots of lessons, Dressage & SJ on surfaces.
I had time on the injury bench at the start of the year due to bad shoeing, there is no way I'm risking him getting crocked again!!

I'm even concerned about just showing as ground is like concrete and you wouldn't normally canter on concrete. Especially as my lad is mostly used to working on a surface. Luckily I don't have to pre enter so can play it by ear

I havent got anything planned on grass until Wales and West in August, im sure it will rain for that! :D I have nothing planned next week anyway and i prob wont go anywhere on grass unless i know its been well watered.

I would go probably if I had a sound horse, I would just take it steady and take extra notice of take off etc, unless the venue have said they're watering as above. Generally if theres a good grass covering its not too bad. Off to Aston (grooming) next weekend, hope it rains before then! :)

I'm meant to be eventing my baby at her first event this weekend at Offchurch. Just sent them a message to see what they'll be doing about it...

Yes - Combined training tomorrow evening and TREC on Sunday.

If I were going BE I wouldn't withdraw. Just ride to the ground conditions & if time clocks up sobeit. BE events are great at preparing the ground anyway.

I'm next entered Mattingley on the 27th, as I'm busy at weekends till then, although may try and get some sj practice in. Competed yesterday and has had grass cover, including some that had been cut me left the ground wasn't that bad. The weather is so changeable I would rather enter and see what's its like, even I do then pull out, then not enter and the ground be brill. I'm not jumping that big anyway.

No . . . was supposed to be going to Wheatlands to do UA ODE, but am now looking for some SJ on surface to do instead. Also, have entered Mattingley at the end of the month but am rethinking that one too.

Not worth the risk to my (older - he's 13/14) horse.

No, I don't affiliate and there isn't any local unaffiliated surface shows on so I won't bother! I always think I will have lovely summer competing , then realise its 30 degrees and the ground is hard and end up competing more in the winter

If there is an event on and the ground is hard, I may go, take it steady and then give my horse a few days off after- I've done that before and it worked out well.

Was meant to be doing a WH class at Bookham on Sunday, but decided to switch to SJ on a surface at Pachesham on Saturday instead. Weather is meant to carry on being warm all week and ground already like rock.

I haven't decided if we will go out next weekend, but the deciding factor wouldn't be the ground it's whether there's something on I fancy LOL

We showjump and do dressage though, so will just be careful and steady. Think I'd still BE event though because as NicNac said, they work so hard it's usually reasonable from what I've seen.

Might see you there ;). What classes are you planning on doing?

Probably the 80 and the 90 :) You?
Big chestnut probably running out at related distances and a classy dapple grey probably acting like a diva ;)

Entered at Frickley ODE on Sunday. I'm still intending on going but will obviously take it steady if the ground is hard. I'm in one of the later classes so hopefully it will have broken up a bit and I'd hope that they would water if it is too bad anyway.

Yes RC areas this weekend. Dressage will be a surface as doing dtm. SJ next day is on fanastic sand based grass that never is hard so will be perfect.

Meant to be at Upton Manor. I'm gonna go and judge how it is when I get there. Hopefully they'll of done a good job with the ground but if its too hard then he won't run.

We're entered at Gt Witchingham too. Given that they're watering and a chunk of the course is across water meadows we'll be going. See you there maybe Kerilli :)

Yep! Hoping they get the tractor bowser out to water the pitches beforehand. Onley grounds EC usually take good care of any grounds the polo lot or us Polocrosse kids use :)

I have to say, the ground around is perhaps the best its been for ages. The heat, on the other hand, and the flies are another story!
