I tried to report an incident where a 6 month old foal was punched in the head and kicked in the ribs. The same person was witnessed by others to punch his second horse in the head after he fetched it down in a frozen school, and others have seen him punch and kick his third horse on several occasions..four people offered to do statements of evidence..... they never got back to me!! Why do we even bother!! how bad does it have to get!!!!???? I assume that this is not bad enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
It isn't illegal to hit a horse. You have to prove that he did damage and that the damage he did was unreasonable. Horses punch and kick each other all the time. Some people, (not necessarily you), make far too much fuss about the idea of hitting a horse. If the RSPCA responded to everyone who thinks a horse should never be hit, they wouldn't have any time to prosecute the people who are genuinely abusing animals. You will need to get proof that these animals have been hurt before the RSPCA can act. Perhaps someone bigger and stronger than he is (in case his anger management issues extend to humans as well) could have a quiet word with him about how concerned you all are?

If that is the case that they were unable to take any action, and I think that a reasonable expectation of pain and suffering would be sufficient here, then the least the Royal Society could have picked up the phone and taken the time to explain what they need and why they couldn't act to the caring OP that reported it or better still get round there and have a quiet PREVENTATIVE word with the owner about that behaviour!!!!!

Typical inaction and lack of response that I have come to expect from them and sadly nothing different from my own experiences over the years. I am not a good enough home for a dog from them (A whole other blood boiler) yet it's perfectly OK to leave me most of the night with a dying sheep while they tried to find someone to PTS then dallied over instructing a vet to do the same, poor animal suffered for 5 hours while they farted around and IT COST ME A FORTUNE to keep phoning their toll number to report it to a different person each time I phoned for an update, the &&*&*&*& wouldn't contact me!

Try World Horse Welfare they might be more inclined to do something now rather than wait for a horse to suffer visible damage. BTW how on earth would you prove a horse has a bruise without opening it up??
 
Despite what others may think about the legalities of puncing or hitting a horse - the onus is not on you to prove anything, merely to report your concerns. Which is what you did.

Phone them again, but also the BHS welfare line who are simply wonderful.
 
Animal beatings are one of the hardest animal cruelty cases to prove. You have to have a vet examine the animal and be prepared to stand up in court and argue that the animal suffered as a result of the action. Something I am afraid alot and the vast majority of vets will not do. Those cases that they do take have physical evidence to support it, i.e broken bones, bruises, heamorhage (sp?!) etc. Without this you couldn't prove suffering.

With regard to taking the call, I would be most surprised if the call wasn't actually taken by the RSPCA anyway, it may take sometime to actually attend as there wasn't any actual injury of the horses mentioned, if an injury as a result of the action was there to be seen, then someone would come out sooner, but because of the lack of this injury it would take a less priority status. Unfortunately they are so busy that they have to prioritise. Do you know for certain that the call wasn't actually taken and tasked out to an inspector?? How long a time span are we talking? It maybe on the list of the inspector to do, but haven't had chance to have a word with the person involved yet, hence you've had no call back????

Certainly try the WHW, they aren't as busy as the RSPCA but cover huge areas, so may be able to get there sooner. I personally don't have much faith in the BHS officers from personal experience, but again am sure this will vary from area to area. I'd call the RSPCA back and ask for a message to go to the inspector who has been tasked with your call, you should then get a call back.

And I also agree with the above, this thread really does not belong in latest news, it should be in NL2 but unfortunately I believe people post here because the threads in NL2 move off the first page very quickly therefore don't get the audience that they do on here!!????
 
There is a youngster I know of which looks like a rescue case if ever I saw one, bones sticking out everywhere, sores all over it's poor body, its terrible. its as bad as those adverts you see in the newspapers with horse sanctuaries looking for donations - the before pic, not the after pic! RSPCA were called and did absolutely sod all. heaven help their chuggers if they try and stop me on the street begging for money. Last time I went by the field the horse wasnt there but if i see it again im calling WHW.
 
apart from the rspca not accepting pro hunters into their exclusive "club"( i wouldn't join or donate anyway) their latest behaviour is disgusting, saying they cannot accept anymore animals for rehoming etc, due to being "full", lack of funds whatever, and yet they donate millions to the labour party to keep the hunting ban going- bunch of hypocritics!!!! so if any of you DO donate to them your hard earned cash isn't going to animal welfare but to the politicions!!
