Im starting to feel really down with not being able to ride. Our school is still full of snow, and hacking is a no no until the weekend when i can get out in the day light - but sods law it will snow again before then so i wont be able to ride for atleast another week

Im thinking of just riding in the school for a plod around, do you think its advisable? Obvioulsly ill make sure his feet dont get compact frull of snow and boot him up incase he goes looney hehe!

How are you all coping with no riding?

It sucks!!! I took Monty out for a walk on Saturday bandaged up to the eyeballs. Luckily he is very careful and precious with himself so I can at least get him out and about.

I took Zoom out in hand for a 'hack' on Sunday. She has turned from fizzy, forward-going pony to certified nut-nut! I daren't get on her while there is still a hint of ice around since she, unlike Monty, has no regard for her own safety, let alone mine!

We can't even turn out as the yard is under about half an inch of sheet ice, it's just lethal. Absolutely desperate to ride now!!

Yes me!!!! The snow on the school is going and its not frozen so took my boy in the school last night for 15/20mins in walk but still had 2 pick out his feet a few times. He was very good but needs 2 be doing more. Cant wait 2 schooling, hacking and jumping.

im missing the great outdoors... i am however one of the lucky ones... we have an indoor which is in teh centre of our stable barn... so dont even have to walk outside to get to it!

cannot wait to feel the wind in my face rather than the dust!

will be fun when we do get back out tho coz they have been digging up the pipelines on the farm tracks... resulting in lots of bright orange fences...and red and white flappy tape! fun fun fun!

Bored and getting a bit depressed...my work is usually a bit quiet at this time of year so was looking forward to getting cold and wet and generally messing around with my horse!
I'm really lucky that she can go out, but she's used to working and being busy and is very bored too!
IF we don't get too much snow tonight our school MIGHT be usable by the weekend, but then I'm going away on business for 3 days next week. AAAGH!

Yup... Haven't ridden consistantly since way before xmas and have managed about half a dozen times up to now. We have been just about above freezing since the weekend and it's slowly started to melt away. The horses still have turn out but my boy is going stir crazy and turning into a right little rat bag having had no proper work for almost a month.

I am - I've not ridden my boy since September due to various issues, and it looks like he's gonna be out of action for a long time to come

Have got offers for rides on other people's horses, and my mum has offered me her pony for the summer as I am really getting depressed over it, but ts just not the same as plodding along on your own boy. I never realised just how much my sanity depended on it

Packed their feet with vaseline and have been able to ride every day since Saturday

OH says they lunge better on the snow than on the mud we normally have at this time of year

My lad competed all last year so i was planning on giving him a couple of months off from schooled etc so i am not too bothered about not riding. Although i was planning on hacking him a few times a week in those 2 months which cant happen.

I might just manage out to walk slowly around the soft snow in the fields - except for the fact that my horse has now lost a shoe and is footsore! This despite the fact I have been trying to get my farrier out since before Christmas. And no, its not because of the snow, he has actually been up at the yard visiting his girlfriend 3 times since then, but his van is broken. And he seems to have forgotten about any obligation to keep this customer's horse shod in the interim! Aaargh!

that looks lovely DDD. wish it was just snowy by me but its not, it;s really uneven ground thats really slippy at the mo. they've forcast more snow for us tonight so i'm thinking it,s going to be a while longer before we're going out. so annoying, i've had my boy since august - just getting onto trotting in his fitness programme, now i'm going to have to start again. and to top it all off i'm putting on weight! roll on the better weather x
