we lost Shy's very best mate, our black lab Stanley, to cancer a few months ago, he was 4 years old. Shy can't walk past a stick without picking it up and marching round with it, all because of Stan's influence..he and Shy actually used to play chase, with me along for the ride literally.. Stan came everywhere with us on our rides. He's very sorely missed.

Stanny and Shy (and hubs)

Anyway, after much soul searching, look who's arrived........

Percy is now 10 weeks old, and is a very old soul, he has definitely been here before. But GOD is it hard work !!! We actually take it in turns to do Shy atm, as it's a break from PPL.... a land where terriers eat puppies, where puppies forget they have just been for a toilet stop in the excitement of trying to steal said terrier's bed....

He has met Shy over the stable door (whilst being held), and the poor lad peed down me. I do hope it's the start of a beautiful friendship :)

Its like having a new born isnt it?! talk about full time. Still my baby, not much bigger and sleeps in bed every night :o

Love him though, I bet shys thrilled! :)

Oh my, the cuteness! Will he eventually be going on hacks? Puppies are like having new borns. I found the crate a sheer relief and the only way to make asbo puppy behave himself before he was trained.

So sorry to hear about Stanley, 4 is no age at all.

Percy looks adorable and a great name too. I'm sure he and Shy will be great friends vey soon. Percy probably thinks he is a monster and Shy probably thinks you have shrunk his best friend!

Many years ago I had a Dalmatian who used to come out with me on my Highland. I was lucky enough to be able to ride round the farm where we lived and they used to race each other every time we had a canter or gallop round the fields. Barclay used to follow behind him if I lunged pony too. They definitely had a bond and after Barclay died Brodie used to look for him when we were riding.

I am so sorry about Stanley. It's never easy to lose a pet, but it's doubly worse when they are young.

Percy is gorgeous! I know the puppy craving feeling so well! After losing Betty and Jakey within a month of each other...here is Halfy (sleeping with Pookie)!

all the pups are sooooooo cute !!

We have a very posh puppy pen, which stanley respected right through his life, bless him. AH NO, not Percy Pup - he's bloody Spiderman - up and over the bars within a day, hubs is now trying to tack a roof to the thing. i don't have high hopes *sigh*. Must try and video it

Our lab is a very accepting soul, and given the chance would be a good yard dog. The hooligan on the other hand.....scared of her own shadow sometimes, and though she would probably be fine on a yard of our own (took to the chickens surprisingly well) I wouldn't let her off the lead on any one else's yard, and would never take her riding, because of her timidness in some situations.

Had a job on the Long Mynd many years ago, and used to take the dogs riding. Gave me a sense of security when I was alone in that bleak (in winter) place. Should imagine it could be a bit of a pain in summer though.

Often look at the pics of them when Hooligan was an innocent pup who could not believe big ginger dog didn't want to be her new mum!

They may be 3 now but are very much puppies at heart :D

terrier has just had a full on Hulk tantrum over Pup coming too close to her bed, she was excluded from the room (get me !!) and she bit hubs on the way out of the door. Hubs got angry, i reminded him that she is an elderly matriarch entitled to her opinion (she never bites unless totally overwraught with anger), and it was just a nip anyway.

I adore my Sophie - SHE is now locked in the PUPPY PEN in her bed, while Spiderman is go-carting round the room.

When will it end, please ?

Oh and just when was the Puppy Guide to Life rewritten to suggest that shagging your bed at 10 weeks old is now cool ?

I think we may have a rogue model on our hands - he is just climbing INTO the puppy pen to be with Sophie. It gets worse - hubbie is also now in the playpen.

I think I'll be having a lovely sedate horsey day tomorrow.

When can I drop them off ?

Sophie is now sleeping in Percy's bed, and he is in hers. We have a truce. Oh and hubs is now back in his chair with a beer, so the very expensive puppy pen is now empty. Worth putting that up in the lounge wasn't it ;)

The Matriarch..her health warning is tucked inside her jacket.

I was an RSPCA Inspector and she was found dumped in the woods at four weeks old. No idea why she was alone, but she never made it into the animal home, lol. She has lakeland, yorkshire...allsorts in her, and her tail is curled up over her back. She's 12 now, and going blind, but she was so lonely, or so she thought...... I've even got her on Bach Holly Remedy for rage and anger.

Seriously tho, she is starting to instigate play with Percy, which is brilliant, BUT she growls when she's playing, so he's a confused pup. So are we !

I feel your pain!! I got a new pup last week and he has certainly kept me on my toes. He is totally nuts and I'm so tired lol. I'm currently enjoying the peace as he has taken himself off to bed now. He is the smallest thing with the biggest personality and has taken over the whole house but I love him to bits already

It's hard, but it's such a wonderful thing isn't it ? It's like he's been here forever, he is just so chilled out a lot of the time.

Sophie comes to do Shy with me to get away, although she does anyway, and that has helped a lot - she is actually starting to settle down with Percy which is a huge relief. Once he's had his jabs, Perce with come to the yard too, just to get used to Shy. He won't be able to go on proper outing for at least six months tho, as I want to watch his hips.

sorry to hear about your young lab, hard enough to lose a pet, let alone at such a young age. Sure your new pup will keep you on your toes ! He is very very cute.

Our retriever is fab with the horses, although it took a little time for him to respect their space !

He understands the 'look' he gets from them now

here is as a baby

I know exactly what you mean!! Eddie has slept in my bed all week but the past 2 nites he has decided he would rather sleep in a big boys bed with my other dog and I miss him being with me already, like he has always been here lol but if he is happier there then that's probably a better place for him anyway.

The hardest thing has been not being able to take him out. Can't wait to take him for his first walk

Gorgeous retriever :)

Ah, the first walk - for us that's a week tomorrow, but even then he's going to be carried a lot. I'm hoping hubs will carry him out on hacks with me and Shy, just putting him down for little wanders, to get him used to being with horses. I know Shy misses Stan terribly, but the terrier flat out refuses to go out with him.

My JRT was training to be a model from a young age

And now at three years old :-)

Shes not so smart around the horses and was stood on two years ago and ended up with a dislocated hip and chipped pelvis.... Lots of money to get the pooch fixed! She steers clear of them now ;-)

Those ears are PURE CLASS !!! gorgeous ;)

They're impressive arn't they! They only go down when she is sleeping at night. Sometimes she'll wake up with one ear down. Other than that they are permanently up :-D even when she is napping in the day!!

beautiful , lol - Percy has HUGE ears, but I am sure he'll grow into them. I do like sticky up ears....... Shy has cracking dales pony ears, really small and curvy.

Oh my I am so jealous of all the puppies!! I am looking after a slightly elderly spaniel and it is so much fun especially with my broken arm, at least I have something to do and someone to keep me company as I can't drive :-) I don't want him to go next week and will be begging my landlord to let me have one!

Well i have a 10month old lab- i can tell you we are still having the puppy fun although he does sleep through now! Just far to friendly! He does have huge ears too- yet to grow into them!
Is your lab field or show lines or a mix?

This is my dog as a puppy
