Is anyone else's car a tip ?

Yes. I took it in to the garage recently and the mechanic opened the boot, which sported the following objects

• A large plastic sheet
• A knife
• Plenty of rope
• A torch

He looked at me as if I was Dexter the serial killer... I couldn't really explain that all these objects are handy to have in the car when towing horses + equipment...

I get similar when the mechanic opens the boot and finds a pair of black leather boots, a jumping whip, a schooling whip and 2 sets of spurs

The xc boots and numnah hopefully gave it away though

I don't drive (yet) so my OH's car is full of straw, mud, bits of stable, bandages, lead ropes, wellies, boots, body protector, clothes, rugs and the other day 80kg of horse feed. Tis only a little Renault Clio as well.
I also do it to my friends car.

So not only will I do it to my own car, I do it to other peoples as well!

I have a car with a really big boot. Just as well, as I have to keep all tack and equipment for 2 horses in it, as there is nowhere safer to leave it! Would never trust leaving it in a locked shed at my field, as no one lives there. Wish they would chop thieves hands off, so I could have a nice tidy car with lots of room in the boot!

About 5 or 6 weeks ago now my old car failed its MOT spectacularly. We've since bought a new (2nd hand) car which is already becoming a tip.

However, I've been offered £50 for the old car for scrap (I know I won't get more for it anywhere else) - sight unseen - but have held off replying to the chap for the simple reason that I don't want him coming round and taking it away - even if it is only for scrap/parts - before I've had a change to get rid of all the cr*p that's in it. I'm too embarrassed.

Am I the only person who never cleans their car, but insists on getting it clean before its scrapped?

Got a new jeep in October, swore it would not end up like the old one. So today it has odd plastic containers, bale of shavings, a stock, Tredstep gaiters, headcollar rope, whip, bucket of feed (God knows how old), a kerry blue/parson russell terrier, hot deli wrappers from bacon butties on way to hunting and chips on way home, wine gum bags, old paper coffee cups, rosette, stanley knife, 4 pairs sunglasses, slimy torn outdoor rug and several unidentifiable objects.

Yep - my car is a tip on wheels - on top of the straw, mud, stones etc that seem to be filling up the footwells...I am a smoker and as my journey's have got longer I seem to have got into the habit of just chucking empty fag packets on back seat or floor (I fetched 9 out this morning!!)......

When I last took it to be cleaned (one of those supermarket car park jobbies), They had taken the mats out and just blasted them with a pressure washer!!! lol...

Strangely the only part of the car that is ok in terms of tidyness/cleanliness is the boot and as its an estate, you would think that would be chock full of feed, rugs, boots etc!!!

Thank God its not just me!! Im printing this thread to show my mum - its a horse thing!!! Im not a pig!!
As well as being a groom and having 2 of my own, the we - as a family - are shepherd, so have about 600 sheep...I do quite a bit of contract lambing and often get sos'd to various ovine emergencies, so besides the obvious whips, rugs, hay. shavings (loose *Blush*) etc that you may expect, there is also a large bottle of lube, surgical gloves, syringes&needles, various bottles of half used drugs (all lableless obv) and 'implements of torture' like prolapes spoons and castration pliers! At the moment the car smells of sheep, horsse, fags (+100's of empty packets!!) and lambing goo....not nice!!!!

Well, one garage did ask me if I actually stabled my horse in my car! The current one gets washed and hoovered twice a year - once when my mum comes to stay, and once when I go down to visit her. I spend my money on making sure it is mechanically good. A bit of dirt does no harm.

<---- Holds hand up in shame!

My 4x4 looks like its just come back from being vandalised by horses!

* Boot area - a nice covering of shavings, horse feed bag leakage and muddied horse rugs.

* Interior - Muddy coats, torches, misc first aid items, a couple of horse rugs needing repair, saddle pads needing washing, leg wraps, and water proof trousers/coats/hats.

* Exterior - I think it was once blue with silver trim, impossible to now tell as it has a thick layer of mud - ho hum.. well it is a 4x4 its meant to have a lived in look.

I dont do car cleaning - Id sooner spend my time with my gang - That my excuse and Im sticking with it!!

I don't think mine's a tip - I think it's normal because it's just like all my friends' cars, but OH thinks it's a tip ... I swore when we got the latest-in-a-string-of-five Discos last year (4 years old but had never towed or even been out of town, I reckon) that I would keep it clean. Soooo, all winter it's had to carry hay - can get 6 bales in with the seats down. It currently has one smelly saddle with sodden sweaty numnah and damp cooler in the back, plus bag of shavings, schooling whip, lunge line (not sure why), hoof pick, baler twine, tub of soaking sugar beet (don't ask), bits of hay hanging off the roof and puddles of melting snow in the footwell.

So relieved to see mine isn't the only skip on wheels!! I had this one last october and promised i would keep it cleaner than the last one- i've cleaned it once since, about 3 weeks after i had it. It's definitley due mucking out sometime this week thought as i've found 3 spiders living in the stray hay & straw in the back in the last 2 weeks!!

This is not good when you're petrified of spiders & one crawls onto your sun viser when you're driving! It's a 5 seater can and can only fit 3 people in max at any one time. Currently has 3 bags of chaff across back seats, 1 fleece, 1 rain sheet, 1 cooler, 1 MW turnout and 1 LW stable rug in boot as well as riding boots, hat, johds, several whips and a sheet of tarpaulin.

Phew!! I'm glad I'm normal as my 4x4 is a mess insided and out, but I blame the dogs for the inside and as I keep telling my OH what's the use of cleaning it as it will be back to the same next day and my field has been a real mudbath, where I drive in.

You all need to join my clique!

My car is absolutely disgusting
blush.gif
. Every now and again I take the wheelie bin round to it and throw all the rubbish away but it's still full of junk and dog hair. My car is my dog's second home so the back seat is covered with manky dog fleeces, bits of bone, kongs, pigs trotters etc. The footwells are covered in expanded wood pellets from when a bag split and there's curry all down the inside of the passenger door from where someone was sick.

As I move about a lot between uni and home practically my whole life is in the boot. The other day I had a dead foal and a load of horse heads in there - can you imagine the stench!?
smirk.gif

Wierdly I do like the driver's bit to be clean (only other people have to sit on the other seats
wink.gif
) so it has a seat cover and I hoover the footwell quite often. I also clean the steering wheel, indicators and dashboard with disinfectant wipes - given the state of the rest of the car I don't know why I bother

.

Funnily enough I was having this conversation with someone earlier.

I think my car is actually worse on the inside than the outside! Atm, it resembles a tack room as I have just moved yards and it is full of rugs/tack boxes/exercise sheets, etc. Also, the usual mud, hay and straw, loads of sweet wrappers in the door pockets...

mine is disgusting!! it stinks, is full of mud, rubbish, jeans, tops, often knickers (can't ride in thongs!) about 4 pairs of shoes/boot/wellies, dirty numnahs, gloves, saddle stand, tack box, coats and goodness knows what else. I take it to get valleted about once a month or so, it costs me £20 but is worth every penny. My best mate is getting married on Saturday so I'll be down there tomorrow afternoon!!
