....a sheepskin pad?!?!?

I brought my horse a very posh one from Badminton and he is totally hysterical about it. First I should say that he is a very sensible chap. He doesnt spook at anything, nothing bothers him (untill this!) and is so laid back and sensible its hard to believe sometimes he is a full TB.

When I walked round the corner carrying it he pulled back, snapped twine and tried to leg it. I got him then picked up the pad and he shook and wouldnt have it anywhere near him! It took me 10 mins to get him happy enough to put it on, then I tacked up and went for a ride (he was fine) I then took it off after and still he was dilusional about it! I was stroking him with it, he seemed happy enough but then kicked out at it, got the wall and knocked his shoe back about 2cms

Silly pony now has eyes out on stalks about everything (its been 3 days!) I walked out of tack room with his normal prolite pad today and he snorted at me! its just so unlike him, its quite funny really but annoying as I was only trying to be nice to him!

Has anyone elses neddies been like this with anything sheep like?!! I should say that he isnt scared of sheep at all, bloody horses!!!!

Sorry, but rofl

Try giving him treats on it, so he sees it as a good thing

Yes, I can't get anything sheepskin near my horse! He literally runs to the back of the stable, snorting and if I dare approach him with it either starts trembling or leaping wildly about.

He is a rescue case - so is spooky and bit neurotic about some things at the best of times! Lord only knows what kind of tragic, sheepskin incident he's had in a former life ... !

That is exactly like him!!! And now that I have brought this horrendous thing into his life hes not a happy chap at all, mildly derranged about it to be honest!
He is not a rescue case and no he has no problem with anything...EVER! I could trust him with anyone or anything (except sheep related things i guess!!)
Hes more colty with everything else, it gets chewed, picked up, broken or just played with.
Bless him tho, hes SOOOOOO scared of it lol

maybe he once had a bad experience with a sheep?
or an old man with a white beard? maybe it was santa...

ah just read the bit not scared of sheep, must be the old man theory. unless he thought you were going to put a sheep on him, who knows...

The funny thing was I saw those lovely posh leather headcollers with sheepskin all over, I thought about getting him one, glad I didnt, I doubt he would of ever come near me again!

I know, it's gutting isn't it?! There's so many gorgeous things, I can't get him because they have horse killing sheepskin or fluff on them

I first discovered C was scared of sheepskin when I tried to put a thin bit over his Dually halter to stop it rubbing - since then, I've not been able to get anywhere near him with anything sheepskin. He was even a bit suspicious of the fleecy wither bit of his rugs for a while afterwards!

So, he's had to settle for looking like a puff with pink vetwrap with flowers and hearts on his headcollar!

I used to have a tb on loan a few years back and you couldnt get anything like that near her! Even the sheepskin mitten lol

I have a young hanovarian and he hates the sheepskin half pad going on as soon as he see's it he starts backing away and if you tack him up in the horse box he grows 4 inches. He too is so sensible and qualified last year for the potential International dressage class at stoneleigh and coped fantasticly with all the atmosphere but does not like the pad. He is turned out with sheep and has no problems. He is so funny.

My mare loves sheepskin! She rubs her nose and muzzle all over it! She breathes heavily occasionally snorts on it but just keeps rubbing it. Think she likes it a bit too much.
