Is ANYONE in favour of straw?

It isn't my favourite bedding but I am using straw ATM. I like it because it's so much cheaperr than everything else and so much easier and quicker to muck out. I do find it smelly but you can't have everything!

I deep litter monday to friday and I like how a straw bed makes a nice compact base after only one day if you leave the wet in, whereas it takes me a week to get shavings to bed down.
 
I don't stable very often, but when I do I always use straw, can't fault it myself. I'm also allergic to shavings!!
 
Straw is for me too.Produces a nice warm bed,easy to muck out and the end product is good quality manure to sell.
Shaving produce wireworms that kill the grass!

Excellent stuff, prefer it over every other bedding I have used.
Of course, the fact that I get lovely, long golden stuff in huge round bales absolutely free is a bonus. It almost makes it a shame that I don't stable my horses, but their shelters which they ignore, have tons of the stuff in them.
 
I used shavings, then got straw in and wouldnt change it now. I don't find it any harder to keep my straw bed, than my shavings bed. Murphy is filthy no matter what!
 
i can muck out a straw bed faster than a shavings bed! i much prefer it tbh. i dont deep litter - full muck out every day, takes me 15/20 minutes, which i dont mind and i love putting him to bed with a huge bouncy bed that i could easily sleep in!
 
I don't like straw but I don't like shavings either! Prefer Aubiouse or Hemcore over rubber mats myself. But mine are out most of the time anyway!
 
I love my straw. My horse is snug and warm and no his stable does not smell. He has no breathing problems as an effect from sleeping on it and of course its dirt cheap so I love it!

All ours are on straw, much prefer it to shavings, looks better, cheaper, easier to muck out (well it is for me), easy to dispose of (we are on a farm).
Have one mare that is messy, wet and loves to eat her bed and I am very tempted to move her onto some type of shavings but the rest can stay on straw
 
I use shavings with full rubber mats. I dont put a sprinkling down (although know you can with the rubber). I have about 2 inches down in the middle, but high banks around the side so they can rest their heads!
 
I hate straw but I do use it in my field shelter (which has a concrete base). The shelter is so big that its too expensive and impractical to use anything else. I just put a big round bale in there and pull off whatever I need to top up! In my stable I do use shavings on top of the rubber matting. By choice, I MUCH prefer mucking out a shavings bed and think its far more cushioned than straw.
 
I would use straw if I could, mainly because it is included in my livery costs. However I can't. My horse thinks straw is the most delicious meal ever and will eat a bed in an hour. Its not worth the risk of colic to bed him on straw.
 
I use straw and love it. I have massive banks and a nice deep bed. I did deep litter it last winter and took it all out at the weekend and it worked well. This year I fully muck out each day.

Baron is quite dirty and I dont think shavings would work for him, plus I just cant 'do' shavings - it takes me ages to get all the the little poos out.

I hate straw - it's smelly, dusty and just horrible

I have rubber matting and flax bedding - tiny muck heap, less stable smells, no sneezing fits, no fat horse (she ate her straw bed regularly)....

Don't like shavings seem to spend ages mucking them out, also don't have money to spend on expensive rubber mats (well unless B has ordered me some but i doubt it lol
