I am hoping to aim my baby sports cob to a BE80 by the end of the season, and at the moment Weston Park or Broadway seem to be the main possibles. Does anyone have any knowledge of the Weston Park course? I am inclined to go for Broadway because I know it, but apparently WP is a flat course...??

Think Weston 80 is a new course but the 80s/90s are generally in the flat bit of a vaguely hill park. Think there might be an 80 championship so might be a top end course.

Ah yes just checked on the BE website and it is the final for the Central North West BE80(T) challenge.... (what a mouthful!).... thanks Wlshful

Don't know Weston but I chose Broadway as horses first ever ODE/BE and i thought it was a lovely course. Hilly though need to be very fit. There's course photos on shoe string eventing.

That was one of the reasons for choosing Broadway - I've done the BE100 and the BE90 course so I know it quite well, I really like it :) Thanks Michen :)

What's the 100 xc like at Broadway? Have done the 80 & 90 there and have started some 100s - there a lot of downhill jumps (obviously I know it's a hilly course anyway)

When I walked the course at Weston last autumn, the 80 was on 90% flat ground, with one little hillock to canter up and down. The fences were open and inviting, nothing technical or overly decorated.

The dressage was well away from everything else, on flat ground on top of a hill, with flat warmup. Going was a bit deep, but it had rained A LOT in the previous week, so not a massive surprise. Going was best on the xc.

Showjumping arena was on a slight slope above the lorry park. Not a massive arena, but the course was pretty straightforward, with the first few fences round the outside, across the diagonal, and then up the slope on the other rein to finish. No bogey fence - rails down were pretty evenly spread.

If it helps, these are the pics of the 90 at Weston - so imagine them all smaller!

And this is the 80 at Broadway this year
