Is anyone not clipping this winter?

Just wondering really, Im thinking not to clip this winter. I have a 5year old tb and her coat is so fine (as you would expect) She lives out 24/7. Ive got plenty of rugs to rug her to her eyeballs this winter! But I know loads of people that are planning on fully clipping theres etc. Maisies only going to be out hacking and doing some school work, so I supose if she does needs clipping then I can do a bib clip or a trace depending on how she goes wintering out.

Does anyone else have a tb and how is there winter coat? Or a fine bred horse etc.

Just a random post lol.

My tb also lives out all year. Her coat is just starting to fluff up in the last few days since the rain so she has a rain sheet on.

She is on limited work over winter so not clipped and has massive stone barn bedded down in the field. If she felt a bit chilly last year I put extra rugs on so she was cosy :) Planning to do the same this year.
 
I don't have a TB Mines a forester. He lives out 24/7. I'm not shore if i'll clip the horrid one this year. One of his many many issues is clipping. :( Last year I couldn't get near him with the clippers. He's terrified even when he had quite a bit of sediline (sp?) I still coudn't get in the stable with him. As soon as he sees the clippers he freaks out even if they are not running :(. Had wanted to work on his fear over the summer but with everything else going on I didn't get a chance to. :(:(
He's just going to have to cope with being a yeti again. LOL.
 
I have an ISH who grows a very fine winter coat and barely sweats when worked so I see no need to deprive him of what he has got and replace it with rugs. He is rugged but not overly so and maintains his weigth well through the winter despite being 23. I think it best to let him dictate what is best for him.
 
I never clip Archie. Won't ever say I never will but so far, in the 4 winters I have had him so far, kept his coat at bay with rugging appropriately though am not one to rug too soon, he is waterproof afterall. He does live out 24/7/365.

It amazes me how many people clip for the sake of clipping, though. Someone I knew clipped hers religiously but I never saw any of them have more than a mooch along the track and for the rest of the time spent their hours in a windy, cold field clipped to within an inch of their life, so many rugs on.

See how it goes, even a little bib clip may suit your horse.

I'm in two minds. No sign of hairy coat yet, so that's good. I want her to stay out for a couple more months yet then she'll come in at night when the cold really starts.
I don't really want to clip but I don't want her getting too sweaty either, although I only ride maybe twice a week during the winter so it's probably not worth it. Might do a bib clip if she gets sweaty, although I am going to camp in a fortnight (yippee!:D) so am hoping the hairy-ness hasn't appeared by then, as might need to be clipped then as it'll be quite a lot of work for her.
 
Nope. My grey boy would kill you rather than let you near him with the clippers. I only lunge and hack him at weekends so don't really feel that warrants it and my mare hardly grows a coat at all. But she's just had a KS operation so will be rugged but re-couperating in the field.
 
Both mine were clipped right out last year to assist with thermo-managed weight loss, but as Seren (little one) is in foal, and Mels is retired now there really isnt a point!
However, saying that, Mels is already a fluff ball and still moulting like a trouper, and is clammy round her chest and armpits on muggy days, so I may just take her belly and throat line out so she is comfy. My old lad was full clipped all year round as he had cushings and it was the only way to keep him comfy, he loved it when I got the clippers out!!
 
I won't clip fat boy Oscar the ISH as he's having the winter off with possibly a few mooches along the road once a month, won't clip the big lad unless he grows a massive coat (which I doubt) or sweats up when he goes untin or something. May clip the other tbs depending on coat growth- Dynamite grew a coat that any shetland would be proud of last year (first winter she was ever out) so may need to clip her. Copper I think will not be clever enough to grow a coat so he will have to be wrapped in several duvets/legwarmers/bootie slippers/wooly hats/scarves/gloves etc from the end of this month until next June or so. Stupid tb fairies.
