My field has been rolled, is being sprayed for thistles etc tomorrow and then being fertilised.

this time last year I had twice as much growth as I've got now!

Anyone else in the same situation?

The new growth has come though on mine and they look very 'green' now, although the blades are not really long yet.

We have done half the spraying, harrowing and rollering but we won't bother with fertiliser as we only have a couple of horses and far too much grazing!

We finally had rain last week and the grass is now just shooting up, but it really is still pretty sparse.

Mine is harrowed and fertilised, but as we haven't had any rain, it's not growing - roll on Saturday with some rain forecast... never mind the horses, my cows are still indoors!!!

the grass is good at my yard a bit to good for my mini shetland she is in a tiny section no bigger than a garden but she dont need alot of room to stretch her legs

It started to grow once the rain stopped at Easter as it was nice and warm and wet but since the ground has dried out (it's like rutty concrete now) it stopped again. I have been watering sections of the rested field in an effort to help it along but the forecast is for rain from tomorrow evening for a few days so hopefully that will kick start it again. It's worrying though as I've run out hay and there's none to be had in my neck of the woods so the nags are quite hungry :(

I'm in Hants and my grass is not through yet.

I have had it harrowed but nothing else yet, haven't had a proper rain for about three weeks now and its really noticeable.

Ours has definitely got greener - and the horses are opting for the grass to the haylage so I'm assuming it's coming through quickly for them! :)

not here :(
horse still choffing her way through a small bale of hay a day and not even interested in grazing (and belive you me she's the first to go for the grass!)
it is growing ever so slightly but def has no nutritional value yet :(

Yes, with a vengeance. I am already mowing my lawn:eek:
Once the ground dries a bit I'll fence this back bit off as another day paddock for the mare and foal.

Plenty of grass in Dexters field (yum, yum)!!
I'm sure it'll start sprouting anytime soon ;)

(Hi Sam)

Yeah, that field is ok, as you know.

Its the other fields.

Anyway, they have now been chain harrowed, rolled, sprayed AND fertilised in the last few weeks, AND we have some rain forecast, so heres hoping for some grass!!

I hope we dont have as dry a summer as last year! The grass in the fields was burnt and brown and horrible!

Also, like some of you have already said, hay is pretty much far and few bewteen now, we have 2 rolls of hay left, and then thats it! Finito! No more hay! Until they cut this years of course, but the way its going, that aint gonna be for a long time!

ALOT in this area suffered badly with this winters weather and horses all over it, still recovering most of it, but has come a little greener since a bit of rain and now all this sun, ive been to some pritty bad jobs in the past week or two, it was a case of doing the best i could out of what there was there to work with!!

My summer fields are sprouting well and the horses are now living off the land !!

My winter fields have been rolled and fertilized and looking better all ready.

With a bit of rain we'll rockin & rollin for the rest of the summer !!

It is growing but a lot slower than normal in our area. We have 2 paddocks that have been rested for over a month now but have only a few cm's of green on them. I was looking at a photo of my cob this time last year and he looked positively obese, whearas at the moment he is a little lean so still having 2 feeds a day plus haylage. The farmers are desperate around here for grass for their lambs.....
Hopefully the forecasted rain this weekend will help - although I find it ironic that we spend the whole winter wishing the rain would stop, only to pray for it at at this time of year!!!
