Is coopers fly repellent worth buying if you have to wash your horse off most days??

I've just been reading about it and it says that it lasts 2-4 days. My horse works hard and sweats so normally she gets sponged off or washed off almost every day (through the summer obviously!)

Will I be wasting my money buying coopers? Because I'll have to reapply it twice daily, once before riding and once after washing?

Shall I just stick with power phaser?

I use it is great. It's the only fly spray that I have found to work. We put it in a spray bottle and put it on every other day and it lasts for ages.

But if I wash her off it means I'll wash it off then have to reapply it so will have to put it on twice a day. Just wondering if that means I should stick to a bog standard spray that lasts for a few hours

It must be more expensive because you use it less often, which I wouldn't...

I use it and my horse has still been bitten badly and rendered unrideable... Rug on / rug off, tried different fly repellents and still getting horrid bites!

We only use it every other day cos they still stink of it on day 2 so don't need it reapplying not because it would cost us more if that makes sense. Why don't you just put it on after you have finished working her. It will more than last the 24hrs till you next put it on.

Thanks happyhacking. That's a good idea. I'll just put some round her face before I ride her to try and protect her face.

AA- what's swish?

Or Deosect, lasts 2-3 weeks. Royal vet college head horse man recommended it and you water it down massively so small expensive tin lasts years!

DO do a patch test with it tho, as it is chemical-y so as with hair dye you want to make sure horse wont have a reaction (tho none of mine or anything on the yard we were on did).

It is a cattle pour on. Calculate the weight and then pour down spine the correct amount. It soaks through skin. It is a chemical so would have withdrawal time. But horses are not planned to go into meat chain !

One application lasts around 4-6 weeks. Best to ask your vet as it is tricky to buy without a herd number on the internet. MSF might sell it you. The other good one, again cattle product is Spot On.
