Is everyone managing to ride in this weather?

I don't get to ride half as often as I'd like, so refuse to let rain put me off. (Torrential downpours are another matter, but they're happening during the day when I'm stuck at work anyway). I always think "oh it's rubbish... I won't ride tonight!" when I'm driving down in the rain, wanting to go home to the telly and a brew... But somehow when I get the stables to 'just give him dinner' I always seem to end up tacking up!!

Tend to just waterproof up me and the pony and off we go! I stay warm and dry in waterproofs; he's not bothered as he enjoys going out (that's another reason I'm so determined to ride as much as I can), and he stays dry apart from his legs/neck, which would be getting wet in the field anyway.

Do think if I didn't have an older boy who's now just a happy hacker it'd be different. Had an indoor school when he was young and it was great. :)
 
I'm another one with a diva pony that doesn't like the rain, or hail, or mud, or puddles, but I'm also supremely spoiled and have 2 indoor schools 10m from the stables :D just need to come up with new schooling ideas so we don't get too bored......such a hard life! :p

Do wish this rain would go away though, the fields are getting wrecked and I just don't have the hours required to get all the mud off the poor pony :(
 
I am a wuss about rain and my boy is the same about wind but we have been out everyday and managed to have a nice time, even while getting soaked. Just plodding about on the roads - we both seem to have got hardy for some reason
 
Forcing myself to! Luckily my mare goes lovely when it's raining so we get on with it. We were caught in torrential rain though on Wednesday; her boots, saddle cloth, half pad, my gloves and my hat are still drying!! Booo!
 
Managed to ride yesterday for the first time in 4 weeks (against doctors orders as broken my left clavical - collar bone whilst jumping) and we went on a hack in what felt like gale force winds and even managed a trot and canter! She was so good bless her but I'm back to no riding again until I have drs say so (partners words not mine)
 
I feel so sorry for people without a indoor school, I'm a fair weather rider and wouldn't keep my horses somewhere without a indoor. After reading these posts I realise I'm spoilt! I hope it drys up for everyone soon!
 
Well, didn't ride Monday or Wednesday this week because of work stuff. But was out for 2h on Tuesday, 1h yesterday, and am about to go on a long hack today!
 
Managed a brilliant hack today as the weather cleared a bit, and before it starts again this weekend. Arena is soupy and fields sodden, so hacking keeps us ticking over until we can add in the schooling again. Haven't ridden since Monday, as I call time when it comes to gale force winds, which we've been having here at the edge of the Irish Sea. He's very good in bad weather, but still... A few days break won't hurt us at any rate.
 
McNally and little ginger thanks for your concern. He is so much better thank goodness. Took him for a quiet hack round the block today and the little sod tanked off with me. Obviously didn't want to get feet wet though as came up to a massive puddle and flew over it :)
Not bad for an arthritic 19yr old! Got to slowly introduce hard feeds and grazing again over next few weeks so hopefully nothing will trigger another bout.
 
I missed a couple of days then just got on with it tbh, the roads are flooded but decent waterproofs and a good mindset and it's fine :)
 
Still been riding, and getting soaked. I don't mind riding in the rain (unless it's absolutely torrential) but what I do hate is getting my tack soaked and having to take home my coats\ sheepskin halfpad/ saddlecloth etc to dry out - it is cold at the yard and they would take days to dry otherwise. My house ends up stinking of wet horse poo!
 
I love riding in this weather! The size of the puddles around us are HUGE, it's brilliant fun. :) When cantering towards them he can't decide to canter through or jump so he does a bit of both then if we walk in the massive puddles he has to try his absolute hardest to role! Little bugger :rolleyes:
