As you all know, Halloween is coming up! Woopwoop!! I've got a 14hh Welsh section d bay pony, and for the annual yard Halloween show there is a fancy dress contest, so I am going to dress him up as a pirate. I decided I want to paint a white skull on his hindquarters, so I went to the shop today and came across children's face paint £1 I bought it, but I want to make sure that it is suitable for horses, before...😁😂😂

Common sense would suggest that if it has been tested as safe for a human child then I would take it as a given that it'll not harm a horse. I have used both poster paint and makeup/facepaint on horses for filming with no ill effects at all.

Yes I have successfully painted a black pony as a skeleton and as a zebra using white face paints. I did a patch test on the first occasion, just to make sure no reaction, but I figured if they were ok to use on the delicate skin of small children then they should be fine on hairy ponies. Happy painting :D

As a teenager I made my horse into a zebra with plimsole whitener. It did him no "harm" but took at least a month to get off, as it was for an indoor Xmas show, so we couldn't bath every day.

I agree that was a silly idea, but would have no issue putting face paint on, that has been tested as safe for children's faces.

We do need photos!
