When he says how he is going to pay and just wants two pictures of said pony????

Thinking he is a dealer, it's a pony and there was no mention of kids etc, just asked for two pic's, what condition the pony was in, why I was selling and how much!!!!

Not my pony i'm selling on behalf of someone and I think for this pony a dealer might do him some good, and they will have the time to put the work in on him to sell him on to the best home.

Thoughts?

Bankers draft was how he said he'd pay and he said he wouldn't take the horse until i'd cleared it.
He sent me an email.....he did say horse when it's clearly a pony (12.2hh)

Scam???? How is that working???

scam...

it'll be paid into your account, you think its cleared, allow pony to be collected..then money "disappears"..as it didnt really clear..

no money and no pony

if he really is that interested then he would phone you, if he wants extra pics then fine but why even talk about money before he has seen the extra pictures. IMO most dealers pay in cash. How much is the pony advertised for?

£600

Is a bankers draft not secure, once you have it in your account then it's there???
Should I call him if he is still interested and fine out more. I have searched the name on the email and come up with nothing.
How am i going to tell if he is genuine or not?

Bankers drafts are actually very unsecure now. They used to be very secure but now even banks don't like to issue them or take them.

As Nativeponies says - steer clear. The bankers draft mostly show as cleared funds after the 5 days to clear but if fake or stolen can actually be bounced a month later. It also costs about £25/£30 for a bankers draft, the person could get the amount you are asking in 2 withdrawals at a cash point.

Can't really comment on the whole dealer thing, but I wouldn't imagine a dealer would pay £600 for a pony. My friend was only offered £400 for her horse. If you think the pony needs work and a dealer is suitable, search one out and approach them yourself, otherwise I'd phone the guy back (or email) and ask what his intentions are for the pony. Have you tried asking him if he is a dealer?
As for the bankers draft, they carry serial numbers so you can contact the bank it's from to make sure everything's kosher. A draft comes from the bank after it has been paid out of the accountee's account! The bank is then insured against any problems but they then take over responsibility to pay you, not the client.
Hope this helps.xx

Also often used for money laundering purposes. They pay you more than you asked, then ask you to send the overpaid amount back to them and hey presto, nice clean money coming from you.

Definately sounds like a scam. Certainly wouldn't sell to someone who hasn't been to see the pony, or at least spoken to you on the phone.

If you think he'd benefit from going to dealer, find a local one you trust and sell to them, rather than any Tom Dick and Harry emailing you.

Sammii, if it was thousands then maybe cash wouldn't be an option - however in that case I would perhaps expect a bank transfer, but the fact that it is £600 I cannot see why cash wouldn't be acceptable for a purchaser to pay. Good luck x

So glad i have asked this as i had no idea about these scams...so i take nothing but cash for him, as it's only £600 they shouldn't have any issues.

No reputable dealer I know would take a horse or pony without seeing it - or would offer you the full asking price and pay with a bankers draft.

Email to say he is welcome to come and see the pony and that you will take cash on collection. That way you will know for sure one way or the other!

Have now send an email to him saying.

That i have heard of a lot of scams involving Bank Dafts and this is no reflection on you but i would prefer cash on collection for this reason.

If i don't here back from him then clearly a scam.

Ha she just emailed you?

Could be a scam.
or yes a dealer but not all dealers are bad!

I know they are not all bad was kinda hoping it was a dealer as he needs a no nonsense approach.
Just wondered if he was or not, if people could tell from what he asked. Found out it might be a scam:eek:
Glad i asked.

I would steer clear, sounds fishy to me.
Suppose there is no harm in messaging back asking for a bit more information and alternative payments?
Good luck and hope you find someone just right :)

Definatley a scam...

Read this reply from him.

Thank you all so much for bringing this to my attention.

Hello,

Thanks alot for getting back to me. I reside in Jersey Channel Island. I should let you know that am really interested in the horse as am buying the horse for my daughter coz i have promised her that i will get the horse for him and i want you to know that the horse is coming to a good home and the horse will be well taking care of so you don't have to bother yourself on that also the horse will be joining a pony club.

Concerning the asking price of the horse and also the condition am very well ok with it.

Regarding the payment, i would be paying you with a banker's draft, and also i would wait until the check clears before i can have the horse with me and in order to send the banker's draft to you. I love the horse and i will like you to consider it sold to me, the funds that will be written on the Banker's Draft will be advanced to the amount you selling the horse to me and you will have to send the rest of the funds to my private shipping company that will be coming down to your house for the pick up of the horse on my behalf Via Western Union Money Transfer every document will be done and the shipping company will be coming down for the pick up the horse. I will need the below details from you

Full Name:.................?
Full Contact Address:...................?
Zip Code.................................?
Country............................?
Mobile Number.........................?
Land Line Number......................?

All above details will be needed from you so i can forward it to my client for him to issue out the banker's draft payment to you as soon as possible, so i hope you understand me?

Concerning the viewing and the shipping of the horse at your location my shipping agent will be the one handling that when his coming for the pick up of the horse, so don't worry yourself on that and i want you to know that the horse will be well taking care of and you are free to come and visit the horse if you like, so i hope this is clear to you? so i await to hear from you soon.

Thanks alot and speak soon.

Kind Regards.

Mike.

I mean seriously if i suspect a scam i would after this email, he doesn't even know if his daughter is a him or her!!!!! Noone would buy a pony for thier daughter without seeing it surely.

Have a look at this website and you will find details of the sort of scam you have received:

http://www.scambusters.org/

If you then type in 'Western Union Money Transfer' in their SEARCH box, it will bring up all sorts of scenarios similar to yours....

Don't reply to any more emails....

Thank you....I was going to ignore everything else from him.....hate this, got all excited that i might have been able to sell him. Bl**dy people.

Anyone want a pony???? lol

Why don't you ask for some recommended dealers in your area and give them a call? They will be happy to have a chat - and at least then you would have a better idea of where you stand with regards to selling him.

Fair point, i'll ask for cash, if i then hear nothing from him then it must have been a scam...i'll be very careful.

If you ask for cash, make sure there are people around when you do. I know it's unlikely but there's nothing stopping him having a mate around the corner ready to mug you for it as soon as he's gone with said pony. I'm not sure tbh, think it's a scam, surely a balance transfer would be easier? I know that means giving your details to him, but last time I sold a horse I met the buyers at the bank to transfer it there and then - sorted :D

Good luck though, hope it's not a scam :)
