I have had my 10yr old since he was 5 and can't remember him being as grumpy with his girth and rugs as he is now when I first had him, however he has been like it for a few years now. I have had his back and saddle checked several times which never show anything as being wrong.
He absolutely hates anyone messing with his rugs around the chest area and pins his ears back and sometimes nips. He is also grumpy being girthed. I had him scoped for ulcers last year which came back as one or two small ones and a course of gastroagard and he has just come back from one this morning which was negative.
Has anyone else come across this? The vet said that some horses are just like that but I'm not convinced he should be acting like that!
He is also a it grumpy off the leg in ridden work but he has always been quite lazy and he only gets grumpy when I get after him so I guess that's just him being opinionated and I will pass with time and education.
Do you think this is being cold backed? Is there anything else I could try?

Does sound like something is wrong. I would either get another vet check or get a good physio out again
Wondering if he has some discomfort in the wither area as that is where the pressure often is when you straighten, pull rugs

I'm really not sure. I'll try a different physio and go back to the vets when the snows gone as she couldn't do any tests yesterday. I just wish they could talk!!

Wow that sounds like an amazing improvement!! I'll definatly Have a Look at those! Think I'll get the physio to check him over thoroughly and try and start a process of elimination. Hopefully get it sorted out once and for all.
