Ignore soggy pony, he'd had a wash, and he's not bum-high, was standing downhill

Is he fat?

I thought he was carrying a teeny bit extra but just been told he's 'very overweight'

Need a pic taken from behind and one from the other side so you can see the crest of his neck to really tell accurately, but my first impression is that he is a bit overweight but not grossly so- what breed is he though?

No - he does not have much muscle - but build that up, especially behing the saddle, and he will look quite smart!

You need to do a fat score to be sure - I think the WHW website has a podcast on how this is done if you are unsure.

I think he looks lovely!

I would say he is a bit squidgy around the edges

but that is best fixed by fittening up rather than dieting

Thanks devonlass1 - we have been working very hard on his outline recently and he is changing shape very quickly, his neck has suddenly stopped being so upside-down and he actually has neck muscle! He's a big chunky lad so it's hard to know whether he is well-covered as he should be, or fat

No , he looks fine to me - wouldn't want to see much more flesh on him , but he is by no means ' very overweight ! '

yes he has quite a big belly! but isnt obese as his neck and bum dont look too bad, he just looks a bit unfit really. try doing a condition score for him

i dont think he looks too bad, my cob looks like that but he is very fit and is slighty underweight! photos r deciving! can u feel his ribs? do u weigh tape him? how much does his belly stick out. i have seen much much fatter horses, he looks lovely bit more work n he will tone up lovely! and remember the camera adds ten pounds!

Really you can't tell from a photo because you need to get your hands on there and have a good wibble and a prod! He's not gross by the look of that photo but you need to get hands on to be sure

Hmm well he can easily school for 45mins mostly trot work in an outline and he had no problems jumping round 2 sj classes a few weeks ago. He's worked 6 days a week and he's out 24/7 with no extra feed or hay. I don't think he's unfit. I don't think the photos are very good at all, will try and get some better ones tomorow.

He managed to win a 'best condition' class a few weeks ago, go into the Championship and be the in-hand champion so he can't be that bad

Thanks. I know, my sister rode him today and he looked very trim and slim, untacked and took a pic, put it on computer and he looks a lot bigger

Yes can feel his ribs if you press on his sides. Yup do weigh tape him, he's about 480kg on the weigh tape

Does he have an apple bum?

They all store fat differently like we do so you need to get an overall picture by having a wibble.

Not actually referring to toto - who FWIW I don't think is fat at all

A little bit, like every other horse really, and his crest doesn't feel hard or fatty

He has a little curve on his the top of his bum but not like a full on apple bum

My sister was the one showing him, and the judged loved Toto, she was chatting away and she actually owns Thoroughbred horses, so I think she'd have said if he was fat

Here he is on the 9th August at a show, just a few more recent ones to show everyone his weight

wat height is he? 480 on weight tapes not bad, mine is 15h and 470 and sboth spillers and dodsen n hor said good weight also vet agreed. he doesnt look like he has a crest which is good, ur def on right path so keep enjoyin him! hes gorg! can i have him

he's around 14.1hh, and a very chunky chappy. He's a very big pony, meaning that he's broad backed and wide shouldered, he takes a 5ft9 rug! Last time I weigh taped him a few days ago he was about 475kg. Hehe thanks
