Hi. I'm looking for advice on feeding my pony. He is not overweight ATM but it wouldn't take much to tip the scales! I am just bringing him back into work after an injury - he is being ridden 2/3 times a week just for 3/4 hour - so not really doing much at the moment. He is out in the day and stabled at night. He has 3 presses of hay in a double net (to slow him down). He also has a handful of chaff, handful of mix and apples/carrots so I can give him his cortaflex and cider vinegar. He also has a Horslyx in his stable. Is this sufficient for his vitamin needs? What do you think of his diet? Advice appreciated

The only element of his diet containing any significant amount of vits and minerals is the handful of mix. I would think (but am no expert) that this will not really be providing as much as he needs. Also, the straights, sug beet etc. will not be providing a comprehensive amount of vitamins, just the vitamins and minerals specific to that food stuff.
If i was feeding him, i would get rid of the mix, and instead give him some balancer. Or alternativly just add a multi vit suppliment. Have a look on the top spec website or ring their helpline on 0870 240 6596. The top spec balancer contains MSM and i'm sure they say that unless you have an actual joint problem , you don't need to feed an additional joint suppliment.
I have already recomended them once tonight! They really are sooo helpfull though, and i've been realy impressed with their products.

Thank you for your reply - I've just spoken to them and they are going to be at Your Horse Live so I will go and see them on the stand. The vet told me to use Superflex (I put cortaflex by mistake on my original post

) as he is quite stiff etc and starting to feel his age (15yo) so I would like to continue with that. The mix and chaff is included in his livery costs so I will continue that and probably look at a multi vit supplement, maybe their Top Spec No. 2 Leisure?? I will see what they say. Does anyone think that the Horslyx that he has is as good?
