Hello, I was wondering if any of you would mind giving me an opinion on my Cob type horse. I was wondering if he would be good enough to show, in Maxi cob classes / coloured? I know nothing about showing so would appreciate your opinions. He is about 16h ish, moves well, and straight, and has good bone, and I think he has pretty good conformation, although I will let you decide on that?? any responses would be much appreciated. Thanks

Doesn't look cobby enough to me for maxi's/cob classes I'm afraid.

Fine for local level, going by that pic, but I'd personally be inclined to trim him up and plait him for some coloured/riding club horse type classes, than turn him out as a maxi.

Any side on pics? And a front on? Could be the way he's stood, but looks slightly toed out on his near fore in that pic x

Don't know much about confo to be honest but.... he appears to only have front legs... :D

I think he'd make a smart coloured horse and is he any good at SJ? I think he would look smart doing that too!

However... I think he would do well in hunter classes having seen your fb photo.
 
He doesn't appear to fit into any show type particularly. He could show in colored classes, but from that one photo he doesn't seem to have particularly good conformation. Also, in my (fairly limited, and am willing to be corrected) experience, judges tend to prefer well defined markings, which he doesn't appear to have.
 
He looks nice, and love the jumping photo :)

Not really my field, and have often wanted to ask the same question about my sec A, so maybe I will on the back of your post :)

Just to add what I know, as a friend shows at county level, yours maybe does not have enough bone, and markings are not ideal!!! For those in the know, would working hunter be an option?
 
Side shot he looks much better in! Original photo is not that flattering of him for first impressions. :)

I'd be inclined to have him how is in that photo weight wise and turn him out as a hunter - see how he does at some local level hunter and coloured classes [though some judges will not think much to coloureds in hunter classes - but then again, some will. Also at local level, him being under height for a hunter won't be penalised as I'll be damned if I ever find a 17hh+ hunter at any locals lol!]
Def working hunter if he can get round clear and mannerly!

For me, he isn't typy enough to be turned out as a cob personally. He has more of a top to him in the side shot photo...but doesn't have enough bone for my liking and just a bit too leggy looking for a true [maxi] cob.

I don't think he'd be higher level showing potential, but he should do ok local at least!

at a local show id put him in the hunter class, cob class and the coloured.

the cob classes near us tend to be more competative but still worth it. also at local level a nice calm show and a horse that has nothing wrong with it will do well. this is because their is usually someone who cant canter or who puts in a rear etc.

my sport horse does the local riding horse class and coloured class.

I showed my spotty botty x clydie in hunter classes... Some judges loved him, some hated him. That is showing!!!!

You go for it girl. You will find a niche for him. I really like him :)
 
Thank you for your replies. Yes I suppose he is a little long in the cannon compared to a standard cob, but as you have all said, it is down to the judges opinion on the day. He is great fun to jump, so maybe I should think about some workers,( only novice, as I'm far too much of a wimp, and dont like to see to much air under my fences);) although I know most judges will hate him for being coloured, and he lacks enough quality really, its annoying, as I think he would give any judge a nice, well mannered ride, (hopefully!!):confused: but there isn't a class really suited to him. Oh well, we will have to be the misfits!!:D
 
I'd try him in coloured, RC & hunter & working hunter classes at local level & see how you get on. He looks good in jumping photo. Good luck let us know how you get on
 
Nothing like any maxi cob I have ever seen, but your photos scream out working hunter to me, and he is very striking in his markings and would do well in coloured classes I'm sure if he goes well.
 
No idea what classes but definitely not cobby enough for maxi. He's gorgeous though, lovely marked.

He'll do well what ever you enter :)
 
I used to do a lot of coloured showing, and won alot, but yours is definitely a type we would get worried about if we saw you waiting for the class as you might pip us to the post!
 
Thank you again for your comments, he will only be any good if i get off my backside and make sure he is going properly!! I presume I need to register with a society for coloured classes? Sorry, I am totally new to the showing world.
