Is hunting better than polo for meeting OHs?

Hunting yesterday, a pretty friend asked me if I knew of any single blokes who hunt. She is involved in the polo scene which is apparently hopeless (although she didn't explain why). Anyone have any views?

And beware people who seem rather attractive mounted but when you mett them in the pub later you barely recognise them as they turn out to be 5'2, bald, bandy legged, pot-bellied and appear to have got all their charm from their hip-flask.

Gamebird and CC, how very true! Never understood the fasination for the red coat, must be because most of the ones i know fit some or all of Gamebirds description ;) Round this way a good looking male who rides is a rarity let alone one who hunts too ;O)

No, no - I vote polo. Met my boyfriend playing polo and trained him at a later date to hunt... Beware the attractive Argentine grooms though - they are only here 6 months of the year and in perpetual summer mode..!

Gamebird - that's a frighteningly accurate description of me! Fortunately I managed to get married years ago before all my hair had fallen out and while my OH slightly disapproves of hunting, it gets me out of the house with the children. There are some definite advantages in having a non horsey OH, not least the cost. Having said that, on balance, it would be more fun if she hunted.

Personally I have always found good looking prospects at racing, especially the bigger meets - Ladies Day at Ascot is like shooting fish in a barrell!!

Hunting is too incestuous for me.

I met OH hunting - he was the terrierman and I fancied him for over a year before we got together. It made going hunting twice as exciting - jumping big hedges AND seeing him.

Sadly though there is a serious lack of single men who do hunt these days so as walker1234 says - racing is def. a good bet!! Cheltenham during the Festival is always worth going to!!

Funnily enough - what Baydale has quoted above perfectly describes my old boyfriend up in Leicestershire. He was all of those things!! Nightmare.

A red coat may make anyone seem attractive, but subject them to a careful vetting to ensure they aren't hunting bores, bed hopping philanderers or a Shires thruster with a death wish...
PMSL at that!
Found my OH (now husband) in a ditch out hunting :-)
I think it was his great chat up line " Hi, i dont suppose you've seen a large grey horse?"

Alright, alright......... but isn't it worth it if you manage to get hold of his nice hunt mare?!! ;) :p

Why is it the races just don't appeal to me. Maybe it's because when i've been to the races or to horsey shows like badminton and stuff i just don't bother eyeing anyone up. Well unless it's WFP and then i'll have a perve *big grin*
Anyway, all the good ones are either taken or gay round here so i stopped bothering to go on manhunts when i turned 21. God what a spinster! ;P

from my point of view- teenage girl, polo is brillitan for single boys!! haha but thats a teenagers point of veiw. my hunt has a serious lack of men- only a few out except for dads so i would say polo but racing is also good!!!

Great question!

I have met OHs through hunting and polo so I will try to be objective!

I think Polo works if your club is big enough, otherwise the only variety you get on a weekly basis is from visiting players (which could be good assuming they haven't come across the country!) Also you need to bear in mind that players are quite used to the over-dressed and over-made-up Polo Princesses in impractical shoes lining the boards week on week so if you do choose polo make sure you stand out as being different and not there for that purpose!

As for hunting... I remember someone telling me that most of Jilly Coopers characters are based on real people and we certainly have our RC-Bs in the local hunts so do be careful. You do get a good variety though: visitors, Household Cavalry, subscribers to different days of the week etc. Although I was amused this week to have two hunting friends complaining that if the army were going to come out in force they could at least pick the attractive ones - bit harsh!

So after all that - it depends on where you are!

Maybe i missed my calling then and should head to a polo match. I'd definitely stand out, although not quite sure it would be in a positive way *grin*
And Springback, if we had any RC-B's around here on the local hunt i'd put my dignity and aloofness aside and flirt for England, although only if they looked like the RC-B out of the Jilly Cooper TV series :O)

That is so true! There was a very sparkly-eyed,flirty,young and attractive whip, who the ladies all drooled over, until he got off his horse and stood knee high to nothing.
Also, remember the old story? Two gentlemen watching two ladies struggling to open a gate. One says to the other,"I say Old Chap, could you help those ladies? I would myself, but it's a bit awkward.....You see, one is my wife, and the other my mistress!" His companion replied," I am afraid I am in exactly the same situation, let's move on!"

I think your friend is better off not looking (so to speak) and she'll meet the right person in time, all in good time, does he have to be horsey? is she under the illusion that all men that hunt or play polo make the best hubby material? or is it more to do with money?.....either way I don't think its the right way to find a fella.

I'd say she's better off just enjoying herself with her friends in the environment/places or horsey events that she's used to, you usually meet prince charming when your least expecting it, in the meantime is she hunting one down like a woman possessed, she mayend up kissing a few frogs along the way!

Besides she's pretty, let them come to her! :)
