Is imported leather still a no-no?

Just wondered as there seems to be a lot of it around. I've seen a REALLY nice bridle that would look fantastic on my pony - but it's imported leather and I don't want to risk suddenly having no bridle 'cause something's snapped.

Well put it this way - hardly anything is tanned in he UK, and what is goes for cars and more expensive items than a bridle.

Due to initially warble fly, and then the BSE 30 month rule and price, hardly any UK cow hides are used. Even the majority in Walsall are imported!!

Tanning has got better abroad and what most people consider to be top quality is generally German tanned leather, as its got more stuffing in it and is more supple.

The nasty cheap stuff is rarely made now (although I did import one from american that stank!!), its where fish and amonia (wee!) have been used and it doesn't smell too good.

Also note that "English Leather" is a tanning term and does not reference where the good was made. If it says "made in England", it can mean it was merely put together or finished here!!
