Is it a standard wintec or a wintec wide?

Hi guys

I bought a saddle off Ebay the other day. The listing wasn't clear as to whether the saddle was an ordinary wintec with a wide gullet in or a Wintec Wide that can take the extra wide gullets. I'm actually after both saddles (for different horses) so it doesn't really matter which it is. Seller did not respond to my question either.

Saddle came today but I am still clueless as to what it is. Is there a label or mark somewhere that I haven't found yet that will tell me?

Hi there

Unless things have changed (i had a wintec wide about 6/7 years ago) the wintec wide have four girth points and use purple gullets

hope that helps

I think the Wintec Wides have 4 girth straps, whereas the normal ones only have the traditional 3. Not certain, so you'd need to check it out, but might be a good starting point?

ETA - we cross posted but it seems that is the case OP so count them straps!

Its got three girth straps but they look (and smell!) like new leather replacements, and its got a white gullet in it.

Can't take pics at the mo cos I have no idea where the camera is (think daughter may have borrowed it!)

HI, I have a wintec wide and yes it does have 4 girth straps, it also has a white label in it that states it's a wintec wide and can only take a white, red, purple and pink gullets
Hope this helps

Hmm. Sounds like this might be a standard one then as this has a label but it only says Wintec and the care instructions. :)

I didn't think the white gullet fitted in the standard saddle though? Off for a google!!

The Wide has 4 girth straps (a point and a balance and 2 normal) and also have a couple of brass D-rings one side at the back.

Both will take white and red (x-wide and wide) gullets. Neither have anything on them to tell you model!

They are very obviously in their difference so I you can post a picture it'll be easy to tell.

Yes i think you'll find the white and red gullet do go in the normal wintec too?

Yep. I was wrong. I got confused. Again. :D

Right so this is a normal wintec with an x-wide gullet. Fantastic! This should fit the smaller of my girls.

Now to get the big girl kitted out....

Thankyou everyone!! :)

Be careful with the fit. Just because the gullet changes doesn't mean they fit everything. Or anything  There's a reason there's so many going so cheap on ebay! The panel are too sloped for most horses (so when veiwed from behind the putside edge digs into their back: I've seen quite a few horses with dents :() and at wider fittings (like the x-wide) the tree is too curved and rocks back and forwards. The flocking is also pretty pants and will need replaced if a couple of years old (yo get hollows behind the points and under the seat. The cair bags deform and squish flat over time too.

The only horses I've ever seen that the standard 500 fits well is narrow-spined TB with a pronounced slope to their loins.
