Is it Alsatian or GS?

I don't think it's something to get pedantic and worked up about; either name is okay really. I was once lectured by an electrician, not to say light-bulb; because the correct term is 'lamp',, also it's not a cable or a lead, it's 'flex'. We call Firenze 'Florence' and Roma 'Rome' a Dachshund in France is called a Teckel, Mumbai 'Bombay' and so on ad infinitum. Many people will always say Alsatian (so does my spell checker when I just missed the 't' out)

Gingercat, they were first registered in the UK as Alsatian Wolf Dogs, I have a cigarette card collection of dogs, one of which bears that legend :D

Sorry Lazybee, it's something I am passionate about and yes, I do get worked up about it :p

I think the confusion of the names come from this: the breed was named the alsatian wolfdog during ww2 as any association with Germany was not particularly popular and obviously because of the resemblance of the dog to that of a wolf. the name alsation was chosen because the breed originated in the Alsace region of France. The wolfdog part of the name was dropped shortly after and in the late 70's I think was when the breed name was officially changed to German Shepherd Dog (Alsatian).
:) ( a quick note for anyone who asks why then is it not called the French shepherd dog is because the Alsace region of France was actually part of Germany at time)
