can anyone tell me what the long range forecast for the winter is? I am dreading a wet one, the rain has wreaked havoc on my paddocks over this the wettest summer since I've lived here.
Cold i can deal with, even if it means looking like the Michelin Man all winter!! Everywhere i go at the moment seems to be swimming in mud so hoping for cold rather that wet & snowy. *fingers crossed*
Bah... at the moment it's cold and wet, wonderful, especially when I need a new coat - WTB Michelin Man lookalike suit!
And of course, this being England, it's going to be raining till February, where it'll spot raining for a day, and continue for another couple of months, it'll then rain all through the summer, into the Autumn and then it's gone full swing - To recap we have 1 day of sun, best year of my lifetime that's a fact
Well just heard the weather forecast - apparrantly we are likely to be hit by tornados and torrential rain - likely to hit us on Christmas eve and cause severe flooding. AAAAAARGH. I was hoping to get my paddocks muck spread last week but had to delay for 3 days - now my paddocks are too wet.
Just watched the same report on GMTV. How depressing is that, more wind and rain forecast. So now we can look forward to grumpy horses, depressed owners, mud fever, rain scald, wet clothes, and bad, bad hair days
Ah well, nights will soon be drawing out and summer will be here
From the met office website.... hope it's right and is drier!!
Forecast for Winter 2007/8
Evidence from the latest model predictions and ocean temperatures supports the forecast issued last month. We have therefore made very few changes to the forecast in this update.
Temperature
Above-normal winter temperatures are more likely than below-normal temperatures over much of the European region. However, this winter is likely to be less mild in most regions than last winter, when exceptionally mild conditions were widespread across Europe. Probabilities for above-normal temperatures are higher for northern Europe than for some central and southern regions, where there is more uncertainty.
For the UK as a whole, winter-mean temperatures are more likely to be above normal than near or below normal. Although a winter milder than the 1971-2000 average is favoured, temperatures are likely to be lower than those experienced in the very mild winter last year.
Precipitation
Our forecast methods continue to favour a drier winter than last year over the UK as a whole. However, as last month, this signal is currently insufficient to indicate whether winter precipitation totals are more likely to be above or below the 1971-2000 average.
I have had to go & buy some waders at lunchtime today! I felt like a right plonker in the fishing shop! Convo goes like this:
Me: Hello, do you have any waders?
FS: Yes we do, what size do you need?
Me: as small as possible - they're for me
FS: riiiight... er... do you fish?
Me: No, My ponies are out in a field with water up to my thighs and I need to bring them in but the water goes over my wellies.
FS: riiight... The smallest we have are a size 8
Me: OK, I'll have them - how much?
FS: £30
Me: Grrrr... bloody horses grrr here you go
FS: good luck!
Then I look like a right idiot in WADERS!!! ARGGHH!! The lengths we go to!!
