Have this feeling that everything is going to change on yard now!

The lady who runs yard has become really ill and she is no longer able to do the work that she usually does. I need the turnout service and have appreciated the turn in service aswell as Buddy doesn't like being left on own and im at work till 5.

Yesterday got to yard and big sign out saying from saturday can you all bring your horses in yourself. It isn't the end of the world i know as least he is managing to get out each day still. But im dreading now for the day when she puts a sign up saying turn out your own horses because i can't do that will going to work and not being able to drive myself.

I am going to offer to help her out a bit when i get chance to see her but i can't do all the jobs. I thought someone though would have been able to help out and bring them all in for her though. I don't want to have to move him again as i love it where i am and its cheap enough to be able to have Daisy Mae aswell plus i have a stable waiting for her.

Can you make an arrangement with a friend at your yard? Me and a couple of others often turn eachothers out or bring in if we need to, so no ones poonola is left out on their own... it works nicely and we all help eachother it cuts down groom fees too

I'm on a big DIY yard (70 horses) and nearly everyone shares turnout/bring-in with other liveries.
People are all split into wee groups of two or three and it works ok.
For the times when no-one can manage there are a couple of girls who will do the honours for a small fee.
It works fine and no-one is left to do more than half a dozen horses. (which I think is quite enough when you're working at another job)
I'm sure things will settle down at your yard and people will team up with each other.

Having read some of your earlier posts, you're obviously old enough to have a job, which is presumably paying you enough to at least contribute towards the cost of your horses.... why don't you learn to drive and get a cheap car. It really is essential if you're not lucky enough to own your own land.

That is so easy to say but currently my money is tied down on other things. Like paying off my holiday, paying for Daisy Mae etc. I am hoping to learn to drive after xmas when have paid everything off.

My job covers me to do everything i love doing at the moment, when bills have been paid off i will then be able to afford to do other things.
 
The car question is one thing, but at my yard, and on every other one I know of, the only way livery horse owners exist is by helping each other out. It works very well in most cases.
 
yep, you need a turn out buddy. I had a turn out buddy, she did mornings and I did most evenings & mucked for her on weekends when she was away (frequently). but now she has left the yard I pay extra for turnout in the mornings as it's cheaper to do that than the fuel I would use getting to the yard.

However, If you are on DIY livery, then getting to the yard twice a day is part of your responsibility. You'll need to either share with someone or get transport, or else find a yard that offers extras. That's the way horses go i'm afraid. holidays are a luxury, seeing to your horse is a neccesity.
