I've seen x3 posts by different friends over the last week about dogs being stolen for dog fights...this one states that coloured stickers are being put on people's front doors/gates by people delivering leaflets so that the gangs can go back to the stickered doors to steal the dog.

Is this just another scaremongering Facebook post or is this really happening?

I'm trying to work out how to add the link...

Apparently it's in the Goole area so if anyone is from there can you confirm this is true?

I never know what to believe on Facebook anymore.

It is more scaremongering.

Like the hoax slayer facebook page or check out their website. You'll see that more than half the stuff posted on FB is a load of bo**ox.

Birds killed by chewing gum anyone

As with all these things, probably rooted *somewhere* in truth (IE dogs being stolen for bait) but has grown like tumbleweed, turned into Facebook spam and as a side note, provides a nice excuse for people to kick off at ethnic minorities.

Of course, I wait with bated breath to hear how it happened to someone's auntie's next door neighbour.
You can usually tell what type of dog is in a property without having to colour-code it.

I suspect it is a bit like mane plaiting and is a bit of an urban myth

My thoughts exactly...also now we have caught on to their devious plan surely they need to change the colour coding system or maybe we could use it against them....they think they have a yellow stickered house (small dog) and we stick a big Rottweiler in their instead...that will scare the poop out of them.

:p

I would ignore the bit about colour coding as that sounds rubbish to me but dogs being stolen for dog baiting? oh yes that is true. With bells on. Dogs given away on sites like gum tree frequently end up as bait dogs as well.

And how about the very very recent and tragic case of the little staffy cross that was stolen, beaten, tortured and burnt alive. Turned out be a small white dog called Issac, 9 years old, much loved and being cared for by a friend of the owner.

So I would share these warnings, with the caveat that I doubted the stickers etc but people really must be vigilant.

As with mane plaits - why would any thief want to put a nice obvious marker on somewhere, or on something, they're planning to nick - why not just remember the address, or take a picture on a camera phone so nobody has any warning?

Dogs are being stolen and used for baiting, but about the coloured stickers well I don't think that is true.

Bruce Forsyth's Facebook page is very good. It helps return dogs and is promoting Microchipping too.

There has been a number of dogs in my area that have been stolen , some pedigree working dogs but others have been Terrier types.

We must all be watchful about our dogs ,not just out on the walks but also in our gardens.
