I was at a bsja show yesterday jumping my 14.1 pony in seniors which tbh i don't think is all that unusual, but anyway i was waiting for the either the jump off or prize giving i can't remember which, and i saw these three guys taking photos on their phone in my direction. I thought there must've been something behind me so when they moved i looked and there was nothing, then one of them stood right next to my pony and another one took a photo!!!

WTF

Maybe they just liked the pony?
We took millions of photos here at the sunshine tour and no one minded, they grinned a lot and I told them we could send them copies if they wanted, most did? Didnt you say anything? Were they non-horsey?
I guess things are really different in the UK, I havent lived there for a long time.
Its sad that something that might be completely innocent now may be seen to be scary and threatening. I hope nothing happens.

TBH I think it's a bit weird, if they were photographers then that's one thing, but on a mobile, why would any one want to do that? Did you ask them what they wre doing?

i didn't really say anything i just looked at them like wtf are you doing and i just said "do you like my pony or something". I think they were just looking at how small he was but it's still weird to take photos of someones horse without saying anything

I find it a bit sad that so many people get scared of photos being taken of their horses. I dont think it's weird at a public event.

One woman moved both her horses off a yard i was on because a liveries OH took a picture of her pretty Arab on her mobile...

Hehe ive had the same thing happen to me on my 13.2hh i was competing 3'6'' class which we won against all other seniors and people started taking photos and i was like wtf

It could be they are taking pictures to show other owners/trainers/whoever to make an offer for a sale. That happened to my old jumping horse a few times.

I would rather them just come out with why they are taking pics in the first place as in east anglia we have had a lot of horse theives who take photos of the horses :$

I agree. People at the riding stables must think I want to steal all their horses because I take pictures of them on my mobile because I think they are cute. Also because my mum lives quite far away and she likes to see pictures of the horses I am always waffling about.

taking a photo of someones horse at a yard is different to a complete stranger taking several photos on a phone of someones not overly attractive pony at a show without saying a word to the owner. I'm not saying they're going to come and steal him but i just found it odd and a little bit rude that they were stood right next to me and didn't ask or explain unless as someone said they were foreign

Not uncommon at all, i ride my 14.3hh in seniors and always attract lots of attention because of our size, and the fact he out jumps most big horses, but i thought u had to ride 14.2hh and over in bsja seniors and 14.2hh and under in juniors??

Happens all the time and nothing weird or worrying about it, people love to take photos of horses they like - some may think your pony ugly, others will think he is beautiful. We get people photographing ours constantly while we are out.
At shows I would expect people to take photos. Mobile phones are often what people use now too as some have fantastic photographic facilities.

Moose22 You can ride anything in seniors as long as its registered as a horse but you need a change of ownership and height certificate to register as a pony again.

I don't object to people taking photos and i certainly don't think my pony is ugly(!!!) but i personally wouldn't stand there taking photos of someones horse without saying anything to the person sat on it, even just "he's cute" or whatever cos whatever the reason it made me feel uncomfortable
