..... or does noone have any manners anymore.

While out riding lately i've met some very rude riders who will just trot or canter passed you without a thought of it upsetting your horse. I have had a couple of people upset my ponies at the gate we have to go through to entre the forest.
Someone goes through the gate ahead of me and asks if i'm ok to shut the gate. All ok so far, I say thats fine thinking they'll just walk up the track. I turn round to shut the gate and the next thing I know they are trotting or cantering off up the track which obviously upsets my ponies. Then I have a fun ride trying to calm them down again
But today I met the worst person of all. I was out on someone elses horse. (I've only ridden him twice before) It was realy windy so I desided to stay on the road and not go up onto the forest. I had only gone 100 yards down the road when a Girl came round the corner on a fisty looking pony and she was cantering (Yes cantering) up the road twords me  I thought shorly she'll stop by the time she gets to me esp as it's only a narrow forest road. She did stop cantering but she still trotted passed me and even laughed as she went passed  Luckly the horse I was riding was as good as gold and we carried on down the road like nothing had happened. But it could have been such a diffrent story if I had been on most of the other horses I ride. :(
Also when we are out in the car I am shocked at the way alot of the riders we met behave. They ride up the road without a care in the world. Don't get out the way and hardly ever say thankyou and the amount of riders I see riding and leading with the lead horse in the middle of the road  I'm not surprised with the way drivers treat horse riders.
Sorry for the rant. :o
I don't know maybe i'm just getting grumpy as I get older. But I'm always careful when I meet other riders out and about after all you never know what sort of horse they are on and how it's going to react and I've always been curtious to other road users. Trotting to get out the way quicker and giving a smile and a wave to say thankyou. I'm just starting to feel like the only one now. :(

No I know the feeling! I always get out of the way or off the road for cars and say thank you, but recently been meeting horses and slowing right down in my car and they dont say thank you or move or anything! Met some people riding 2 abreast across the road and they didnt bother to get back into single file for about 5 mins! Thought it was just me lol :)

No it is not just you. There are so many inconsiderate people out there its untrue. I have been brought up to say please and thank you and above all else be considerate. I am not saying i am perfect but I do have manners and I do think of other people

Don't get me started. We have one rider near us who I swear thinks she owns the road and is the queen.

We have one of those, snooty cow!
We met her three days in a row, Oh was driving, and her and a friend were riding two a breast down the lane in front of us, they could easily have moved over but didnt, just put up her hand and said"WAIT!!"
Then next day they were riding towards us two abreast again, so OH waited until they rode past before driving off, i was completly gobsmacked when neither of them even put their hand up, let alone said thankyou!!
I plan to have a few sharp words with them if i see them riding again, people like that give the rest of us a bad name. :(

I know what you mean about riders not thanking drivers for slowing down. I always make the effort to thank every driver who slows down for us when we're hacking, and when I'm driving and meet a horse on the road I obviously slow down and give plenty of room, but I've noticed other riders can be so rude! They totally ignore me even though I've made eye contact and give a little nod, so I've started to roll the window down in anticipation as soon as I spot a horse and rider ahead of me, ready to shout at the top of my voice "YOU'RE WELCOME!" as I crawl past, if I need to!

Not quite the same but a couple of riders rode past our yard at a flat out trot the other day. This set off the horses in the field nearest to the lane. We were trying to bring in four horses from the other field at the time and managed to hold onto three but one of the youngsters pulled away. No harm done as such but it astounds me that some horsey people fail to see the consequences of their behavior. We shouted at these numpties but they blamed the horses in the front field which were only pratting about because of them!!

A local kid who has hunting/games ponies who I generally like annoyed me the other day. I was on my horse, who was having a breakdown at a truck just going past (truck didn't slow down, and as it had already set him off, I had draw reins on (for control!) I couldn't put up my hand to stop it  and couldn't trot away as was only supposed to be walking :( ) So there I was, on slipy road, horse going a bit crazy, spinning, plunging, mini hops etc, and this kid trots straight past!

Behaviour became unstoppable then, so I had to get off - as I know he'll calm down if someone's at his head - only the second time I've done that in seven years - I didn't want to risk us both coming down on the slippy road :(
