Girl who is borrowing my horse wants to take it on a 3 hour journey in small (hot) box 2mrow to event in 30 degree heat. Am I interfering if I try and dissuade her and any suggestions how to approach it.

The fact you've put a posting up makes me think you think it is mad. Phone her now and tell her you are concerned. You never know she might be having some doubts too but not want to call it off in case you think she's mad! I'm a happy sharer and it's worked very well on the basis that her owner and I are totally honest and open with each other about what we think is best for the horse. Even to the point of being a bit blunt at times!

If you aren't happy with the horse going then just say you don't want him/her competing in that heat and on such hard ground, it is your horse at the end of the day. :)

I would talk to her about it - she may not feel the same way but at least you have spoken about it....if its your horse then you have final say at the end of the day :)

It suppose to be extremly hot tommorrow, to be honest I think it would be a little unfair on the horse although thats just IMO.
Its your horse and if your not happy about it then you should say

No way i'd let someone drag my horse 3 hrs to a comp and jump in 30 degree heat, but maybe i am over protective ;)

I have very often returned home from a competition without competing after walking the course if the ground is too hard, i wouldnt risk damaging my horses legs, especially if it was just a local RC type event, its different if its the olympics lol! But no, i wouldnt want to risk someone else damaging my horse so i'd say no.

Utterly mad IMO, despite air con I wouldn't want to sit in a car for 3 hours myself, let alone in a trailer - and what if there's roadworks or an accident en route?! Daughter hasn't jumped for over a month it's that rock hard round here. She wants to go to a show at the weekend, but I know the field hasn't much shade, and although usually grassy will be dusty and hard, so we're going to Woodcote Steam Rally instead to keep OH happy.

all i can say is thank god i live in scotland and we've had over 30mm of rain this month already!
you poor peeps - fingers crossed you get rain soon
but if it was my horse - no - i'd withdraw... but i only have one and i want her to last as long as poss!

Your the owner, so go with your instincts. If it was me I'd tell her she couldn't take my horse with the rational and obvious reasons why. Besides which, she might get heatstroke!!!

I wouldn't have a problem with it assuming she is going affiliated eventing and/or has the sense to w/d if the ground is rutted. Look at all the top horses running at Barbury this weekend......

I'd take plenty of water and get on with it - the person riding my horse is taking him Novice eventing at Barbury on Saturday, fine by me.

People drive me nuts. Affiliated or notThey wouldnt jump outdoors in winter on rock hard ground but it is OK to do it in summer when the weather is better.

I would really like to go and jump my horse but ATM I wont becasue its not rained for a month and its the most boiling hot weekend of the year and I just wouldnt do that to him.

Perhaps I am soft, but I cant see the enjoyment in doing it for horse or rider.

To me the person is thinking of herself, not your horse.

And I would stop her going if I wasnt happy with it!!

I must admit that I wouldn't - wether it was me or someone else riding my horse. If you aren't happy with your horse being evented over the ground as it is at the moment, then it is your call and you shouldn't feel bad about your decision.

Ditto this (apart from the living in Scotland bit!)

I certainly wouldn't be eventing. Phone her/text her and explain that your horse will not be happy with the travelling and going xc on the hard ground might make him lame. I wouldn't have left it so late though, she will have lost her entry fee and might be a bit peeved!

I would not travel for that distance in this heat unless it was something that comes around very occasionally like a national championship. Sorry but i wouldn't put my horse through it. Personally unless the ground has been well watered & aerovated & rolled i would not want to XC at present.
