Ok sorry for the inane post, but this has been bugging me! (plus my car is broken so i have to wait for a lift to the yard and am bored!)

Is it me or is the top (before) horse different to the one below? I know he looks like he has muddy feet, but i could swear the horse in the top photo has at least one white sock and the 'after' horse has none... I also reckon the horses have different shaped heads!

umm, just had a good nosey! he does look pretty crappy in the first photo but looks like his ribs are a bit highlighted with brush strokes, head does look very roman in these too, not sure about white sock, head does look more refined in the last one, mmmmmmm . might get some of that food tho!

At first I thought it was a different horse but I think it's just the lighting of the mud on his legs which is making it look like socks. Probably the same horse x

That horse in the first photo has socks. If you look closely, you can see that he has pale horn, and most horses with pale horn have socks, and the 'after horse' doesn't. Not the same horse.

Looks the same to me... no evidence of white sock. Clay mud does weird things in low light and someone said mine had stockings and she has no white at at all when she had dried mud on her legs one winter.

Plus the shoulder angle is the same, hip point looks the same and they just have him standing better in the last photo.

I think it is just mud - probably some yellowish clay, on the feet as well as the legs. Bit of an elementary mistake if they are trying to hoodwink us - brilliant feed, even changes the colour of horses' legs lol

It's the same horse 100% You only have to look at the shape of its back. It has a slight roach back. The pale colour on the feet and fetlocks is mud.

I'm not convinced its the same horse, lack of sheath can happen depending on angle of pic etc as iv got pics of my geldings who look like mares in certain pics but I'm not convinced the heads look the same

I chose two points to measure on the horse (i picked the head and the canon bone)
The relationship between the two lengths should be the same if it is the same horse. You can clearly see that the difference in the head and canon bone length is greater in the before horse than the after horse.

Good thinking!

But this only works if the images are taken from exactly the same point. The first image has been taken from slightly in front of the head of the horse, and the second more towards the rear. The perspective changes accordingly and the photo measurements are void.

the images are taken at a similar enough angle to make the measurments reliable enough for what we need to know.

Respectfully disagree :)

But i am intrigued reading the thread. The shape of the horse's head does look different in the first and last photo. The lack of sheath is perplexing. But then again, the photgraphs are taken at different angles, and they aren't the best quality images in the first place? Surely they wouldn't fudge it, would they?

I thought at first that it was the same horse. I put the head down to looking bigger due to the poor condition of the animal, plus the winter coat whereas the final picture, horse it a picture of health with summer coat. However since the lack of sheath has been pointed out, I don't know.
